Cam Newton needs to be treated like Alex Smith

LOL...4 of this teams 5 loses have come by 6 points or less. This team has been in every game except one. The defense is showing real improvement. This is not a team that has "quit" and is not poorly coached. They have a young quarterback who just cannot get it done in the clutch. They are close. They are really, really close. They just need to get back to traditional football and treat Cam Newton like an average, young quarterback until he proves he is something more.

so when you see cam forced to run a slow developing read option play fake into the teeth of a blitz that immediately overwhelms our interior line and has immediate pressure in his face you don't think coaching or playcalling.

you look at that and think "wow, cam sucks".

i'm reading this guy's posts and he just has some plain whacked out ideas about the kind of offense we're running this year versus what we ran last year. like stuff that makes no sense-claiming we "hid" newton last year when he was attempting 35 passes on average per game through the first 8 weeks.

filed under the "ignore" column. thanks for playing bro.

"Someone disagrees with me or makes an incorrect observation. Time to ignore them."

Grow up, man. Nobody claims to be an expert around here.

Going back to the first few games of last year is hilarious. No training camp, no film on Newton or the Carolina offense...and they played a lot of playground football and put up some great stats. Is reality sinking in yet??? It should be. How many games has Carolina won with Newton at QB when a running back was not the leading rusher?

i think he said the first 8 games about half the season. a tad bit more than a few games.

2 te sets and power running with the R.O sprinkled in is "playground football" ? i wish we were playing that type of football now!!! that last question makes no sense. is it cams fault our rbs are getting production?

Cam has made mistakes but so has every other player in the NFL. Our problem is coaching, not Cam. Has Rivera even addressed why we went to a read option based offense?

this is spot on to me . it is like cam has to play a perfect game each time out. you guys do realize that even after he has been in the nfl for some times he will still make some mistakes? some people around here act like cam is the only one to throw ints or not make 4th quarter comebacks.

cam really isnt that much off from last year, stats wise, it is just that this year he isnt getting the production out of the running game and is playing mostly from shotgun.

You are not getting that type of production from your running backs because you are tailoring your offense around Cam Newton. They are running the spread option BECAUSE their quarterback is Cam Newton. They bought into the hype and forgot that football is football. Carolina is 1-6 over the last two years when Newton is the leading rusher. The running backs are not producing because the offense is more of a gimmick than anything else. Like I said. Line up in the "I", run the football, treat your quarterback like any other struggling second year player, and things will improve.

And as far as Newton's passing numbers...he threw for 300+ yards in 3 of his first 4 games. He has done so EXACTLY 1 time since.
