Thoughts on Jonathan Cooper as a O-line draftee?

While this season seems to be all over but the shouting (and enough of that has already started here on the Huddle!), I see that UNC's John Cooper is up for another national Dlineman award. He's a Wilmington product - played at John T. Hoggard High School - and has been pretty stellar for the Heels. What are your thoughts on the likelihood of him being available when our turn comes up in April., and how he might fit into the Panthers' defensive scheme?

We just drafted a LG in Amini who probably just had his best game and was going against McCoy. I feel as though LT should be priority #1, swinging Gross over to RT to finish his career should fix this line. Gross had his best years at RT anyway.

Yep. I say RG via free agency and LT in the draft.

No way you waste a top 15 pick on an OG. OT is a different story. You can get by with mediocre OG play. That's how guy like Jeremy Bridges last so long.

Yeah I agree - Cooper easily could be the first OG off the board but I don't think I'd invest our top 3 pick in him.

    • Through 2 games cltfc has 12 shot attempts. Opponents 23 shots on target. Attack sucks, Defense definitely sucks. Kahlina is the only reason they haven't given up 14 goals in two games.
    • I met a few times--never liked him. I figured he might have had a bad day--but then realized that he must have a lot of bad days. Once he raised his voice at my son because my son did not understand a question when SS was signing his jersey.  I wanted the jersey to represent his encounter with a Panther great, not some small man with a bad attitude.  I told me son, "Forget it.  He was asking you what your name is (My son was about 7 and told me that he thought Smitty was going to write (my son's) name on the jersey.  He said "Dad, I thought he was supposed to write HIS name on the jersey, not mine."  I said, "He was personalizing it, writing it to you--like a birthday card."  He is now grown, and he has a steve smith Jersey that is framed and matted.  He keeps it is his closet.  I asked him, "Why not have that out on your wall?"  He said, "All I remember is an A-hole scribbled on my shirt.  I don't remember a legend or hero.  But he had a Jake Delhomme Jersey on his wall.  "Jake was great.  I will always remember that."  (Jake stayed and talked to us for about 5 minutes or more--GREAT guy.)
    • Is it possible for someone to regress in maturity as they age or has Steve really just been a jerk his entire life?
