Albert Breer's GM List

Eric DeCosta, Ravens director of player personnel: DeCosta has been a top-of-the-list GM candidate for a half-decade now, but it'll take an enormous opportunity for the 40-year-old to uproot. His wife is from Baltimore, and he's seen colleagues go elsewhere and find browner pastures. Plus, if such an opportunity doesn't come, he's content to wait and succeed Ozzie Newsome as Baltimore GM.

Brian Gaine, Dolphins director of player personnel: Miami's instability notwithstanding, Gaine was part of constructing the Cowboys' talent-rich roster in the middle of the decade, sat next to Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland in the draft room in Miami, and has worked both small-picture (advance scouting) and big-picture (team building) parts of an operation. Gaine is well-regarded in the scouting community.

Tom Gamble, 49ers director of player personnel: This season in San Francisco has caused a lot of folks to re-evaluate how the 49ers were built. Scot McCloughan, having already been a GM, doesn't qualify for this list, but he might get another look as a GM (maybe in Oakland), and Gamble's is another name sure to come up, with his experience in pro and college scouting, contract negotiations and coaching.

A guy on the website "the sideline view" wrote a good article regarding potential GM candidates. The one that stands out the most to me is the guy Tom Gamble from SF. He's been around football his entire life and has both scouting and cap experience. He's also been a part of building several teams that made playoff runs. I would like it if the Panthers give him a hard look.

Ross.... any list should include him. Breer is usually pretty good and a fellow Buckeye!

I see nobody actually read the article since he's listed in it.

The blue text that says source..past wher the OP said there is more is a link...you can click it...

"Marc Ross, Giants director of college scouting: The 38-year-old has put together an impressive run of draft classes since joining the Giants in 2007, and was in the mix for the Seattle GM position when Pete Carroll was hired as coach in 2010. Ross was once the league's youngest college director, at 27 years old in Philly, and has a Princeton degree, which is sure to please the business side of an organization."

    • This is true.  But I don't think you can really do that with Bryce.  Week 1 was extremely consistent with what Bryce has been each season entering a year and overall as a QB.  I think the real liar is just the anomaly week 18 game last year.  Without that one random game.......Bryce Young's career to date really isn't debating at all.  He doesn't belong on the field.
    • Yeah Kyler definitely hasn't lived up to billing. But this is a tough league. If a guy doesn't want greatness there's nothing you can do. But even the guys who don't want that and spend their days playing video games instead of studying film can shine brighter more often than someone who is just physically outmatched altogether. Unfortunately we have learned this in real time. But I agree entirely about first overall picks in general. You don't need to be in that slot to get a decent starting QB. That's another tough lesson the Panthers are learning. Anywho. We'll see how our head coach has his team prepared this Sunday. I just want to stop looking horrible early in the season when everything is still at stake. These late season runs when we are already eliminated do nothing for me and they have clearly done nothing for our team culture as previously suggested.
    • Rather than his physical stats, I was kinda alluding to the fact that Kyler hasn't lived up to the hype either. Although, he has had some modest success for short stints. The thing is, both teams could have probably had the same success rates with third round picks as QBs over first rounders. Yanno?
