An OLB beyond the 1st

...is not out of the question imo especially with a new coaching staff.

I think Sean Porter would be a really intriguing option at OLB to replace Anderson/Philips or whatever we do out there. I understand Beason/Keek/TD is a possibility but Considering two of those players' injury history and our less than spectacular coverage skills in the unit, I think we should be looking for that hybrid type (i.e. Von Miller, Wagner) to take a gander at that can blitz, cover the flanks, and go 1 on 1 with the athletic TEs in the league.

Before something I expect to be said is said, YES we have other pressing needs, but I don't see a long term option at either OLB right now and many defenses are growing more into the hybrid sets. I think this could be wise looking beyond just next season.

What say you? And again, not in the first...but about OLBs beyond it. Cheers

Without a 3rd, we will have to make our picks count and unfortunately would not have the luxury of taking an LB unless in the 6th or 7th.

D could use a DT and CB. Not sure with Gamble's cap number and age that he won't be cut or traded. Would just as soon move him and let the young guys continue to get better.

Oline is a major need at G and OT. Trenches and then secondary needs to be our focus

I agree. O-Line and WR are definitely my early preferences. Jake Matthews, Eric Fisher, Lewan, & Oday Aboushi will probably be in play for us at OT. I dunno about guard and I'm not vehemently against taking Warmack but I just don't think a new GM will go G with his 1st pick at his new job.

I think our first will be a OT, WR, or DT

The 3rd was totally worth it for Olsen but it makes us have to be very smart with our first 2 picks. I was looking at the guys that could be late rounders at OLB and a few look interesting: Cornelius Washington, DeVonte Holloman, & Kenneth Tate

I totally hate the way the Panthers operate at year end. I know everyone wants an WR, but with Gettis, Adams and Pilares never getting a sniff of the field, who knows what we have on the shelf already?

I know Pilares is now gone, but why not get these other guys on the field? Injuries have given us the chance to see some of our secondary guys and evaluate them. Several have unexpectedly risen and other have not made the grade. Wish the Panthers were a forward looking team and did the subsitution thing on their own and not just because of injury.

But, Rivera wants to keep his job and most fans want to beat their chest at clobbering losers like Oakland, so, guess we will never know

    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
