Greg Jennings doesn't see himself resigning

Please do elaborate. I'm torn on Jennings. I think the man has talent, and I wear old spice. But he is very close to 30 and will be coming off of a very injury plagued year.

In my perspective. The guy has been overrated. Had or has the drops, haven't check on his stats about that, but he did suffer from that. he's on the wrong side of 30, is about to be. Personally think he was a great beneficiary of an amazing WR corps that the Packers have. Take Jennings away and the Packers are still an offensive power house. Nelson, Jones, Recent star Cobb and someone else that I'm probably forgetting. Their TE is meh.

There's always the injury thing, he doesn't seem to have a full season. Much like nelson as well, but Nelson has more potential imo.

Put him in our offense, he would help, but how reliable would he really be? Would he truly be a #1 in our offense? I'm willing to say he wouldn't be. Borderline 1-2.

Compared to other WR's that may hit the market or are going to hit the market, there's other choices that could be made. But truly in the end, our cap situation is so fubar that we wouldnt' be able to afford him.

1. Jennings doesn't turn 30 until after the 2013 season starts.

2. Those who think the Panthers can't afford him should look at the contract he's finishing now before making that statement.

3. He'd be a great slot receiver for Carolina.... but the Panthers need to start thinking about their entire WR group over the next 2-3 years. Smith will be gone after the 2013 or 2014 season (Carolina won't pay him $7M in 2015 when he's 36):

2012: $1 million

2013: $3.75 million

2014: $4 million (+ $3 million option bonus)

2015: $7 million

2016: $9 million (Option Year)

2017: Free Agent

4. Brandon LaFell is actually older than Louis Murphy, but I think the bigger target in LaFell suits Cam Newton. Murphy could stick around as a #3/KR/PR since he's a UFA.

But we have the ultimate slot receiver in Smitty. All that is needed is that #1 Deep threat.

#1

Smitty

LaFell

    • Also, just for clarity, is this thread meant for general discussion of Bryce Young, or discussion of General Bryce Young?
    • The word I feel most comfortable using as a descriptor is "inconsistent". Haven't really seen anyone disagree with that. Consistency being one of the things I value most in a player, that makes me lean toward moving on. But he does still have both time and opportunity to prove otherwise. Mind you, having a streaky quarterback isn't exactly a new thing in Charlotte (you could argue it's been the norm). Delhomme was notorious for starting slow but finishing strong. He could sadly also find hos way into ruts that were difficult to crawl out of. Newton, on the other hand, was often known to start hot but fade late (the vast majority of the 2015 season followed that pattern) though it could be argued that was a team pattern as much as it was Cam's.  There are definitely some fans for whom this is always going to be a bridge too far. (or too short) Realistically, it's not impossible that he could still have a good career even with those issues. It's a damn sight more difficult, though. And arguably, less likely.
    • Oh, I did, and they weren't based in emotions either. Granted, characterizing them that way gives you an easy out to avoid responding to them. Similar tactic to dismissing the other guy's points with "nah, you didn't really watch the games" which saves you having to debate what he said. Strikes me as a kinda lazy way to go, but hey both elements are still back there if you feel up to trying later.
