There has always been an ownership group, he just has the biggest piece of the pie chart so he's the owner.

If my memory is correct at least one of his sons and maybe even other family members also own parts of the franshise. But that could have changed when he fired them. I'm not sure.

From what I read the 48% includes all family owned stock.

It's surprising if the family ownership isn't greater than 50%. That means the other partners could get together and oust him or his designated heir at any time.

I thought the same thing, if someone wanted to move the team out west they technically could.

the list of associate owners isn't current, but included a few top Real Estate guys, the Belk family, Erskine Bowles,

There weren't any bank guys on there (Hugh McColl, etc). Richardson says "or my family does" since each of the siblings and his wife own portions as well.
