If Shula is promoted to OC

That would allow Cam to go into his third year of the same offense, where he should excel, while also a new QB coach would need to be hired. A lot of you have wanted a new QB coach, someone like Weinke, so if that were the scenario, would it really be all that bad? I'm not endorsing something like this to happen by any means, but I'm trying to be optimistic about something like this maybe happening. Thoughts?

I'm down with it if that is what is decided. I'm sure Gettleman will have say on this and I trust him to be sure the choice is right.

Shula was Dungy's OC in TB from 1996-1999

Offense finished 30th, 23rd, 18th and 27th in that time

Who did he have on those offensive squads? I honestly don't know. If they weren't very good squads, that could be part of the reason. Our offense has some talent and can do some damage with the right playcalling and a little better o-line play.

Shula wouldn't run the same offense

But there would be some consistency for Cam with him,

When has Shula ever run Chud's offense? Answer: never. I don't get why you guys are insisting it'll be the same scheme with him as OC. He has no experience in it.

i know that it wouldn't be the same offense. i said that but it isn't really what i meant. he has been around to see what works and what doesn't for Cam. he would probably institute a lot of plays that he can run and there would be consistency to what Cam is used to.

QB - Trent Dilfer

RB - Errit Rhett (leading rusher)

And there FB was there leading receiver

Dilfer, Alstott, Dunn. Not great, but the offense went from 27th to 6th the year after he left

Shula is a shitty QB coach. I'd rather he not control the offense. Dude can't even coach Cam.

Cam has accounted for more offense than any QB in NFL history in his first 2 seasons.....and only had 1 yr do real college ball coming in. Cam also made huge strides from start to finish in his demeanor.....

I'd say Shula has done alright.

But has he done all that just based on Cam being Cam? Because he still displays poor footwork under pressure and other small fundamental things that it's the QB coach's job to fix.

    • Aggressive runner, hits the hole fast, and runs angry.  Just a few yards shy of the single game record for the team.  Absolutely phenomenal performance.  If the gameplan hadn't become weirdly pass heavy for the 3rd and first half of the 4th quarters he might have been flirting with 300.
    • I felt that way before the season started, but I'm sorry, he's already proven he isn't that guy, I don't need to learn anything more about him. He threw the ball 30 times today and could only throw for 198 yards, which was his 2nd best yardage game this year, he's just not the guy. Which means this season has already moved onto the 2nd most important thing going into this season after evaluating Bryce, and that's developing our best young players. You don't do that by only throwing 8 of your 30 passes to your best player who is still only a rookie.  Pepper him with targets and help develop him so he's ready to take a huge leap next year when we get a real HC and QB to get him the ball.
    • Every win comes from a non-sustainable source.  As CRA mentioned, Penix absolutely imploding against ATL, and then today, defense finally clicked and looked the best they’ve looked in a long time (and still have up 24 points lol) and Rico ran for 200+ yards.  We’re not going to get that every week, especially against good teams, which neither Miami or ATL are.  Both MIA and ATL are bad teams and Bryce still couldn’t get it together.  The defense (and team) had to overcome 14 points because of his turnovers again.  That was not even an average QB performance.  We are winning in spite of him.
