So do lot's of other billion dollar businesses in CLT. Glad you are ok with corporate welfare.

Almost all billion dollar businesses get public funds of some sort or another. Glad you don't complain about public welfare except when it's against the Panthers because you have beef with the way that the team has been playing.

Point being Charlotte was growing at a rapid rate before the sports teams located here.

Charlotte provided an area of the country where a sports franchise could flourish.

One has more to do with the success than the other

This doesn't discount the fact that it's a symbiotic relationship, as such the city is willing to provide funds to maintain a healthy business relationship. Simply allowing the Panthers to exist is not a valid argument.

The city already invests in the areas around the stadium and improving the city's infrastructure. Hell building a baseball stadium with public funds is a better use of money. There is no ROI and there is no cost justification. This is a shake down the Panthers are performing based on the fears of Shinn/Hornets v2.0

I have no issue with the ticket holders paying for the renovations in this case.

Meh, I thought I remembered you arguing for bailout and certain "corporate welfare" programs in the TB. Perhaps, I'm mistaken.

Regardless, this isn't a "corporate welfare" case. The Panthers aren't failing and aren't asking to be bailed out. They have asked for the city, based on mutual benefit, to share part of the renovation cost of the stadium. You realize that the city isn't paying the entire bill right, the team is putting in a large portion as well - generally equal to the City's portion?

Well, no. That's just the spin that you want to put on it. The City wants the team here, and they jumped a chance to tie the team, financially, to the city. This wasn't the main motivation behind the deal though.

Cities, counties and states provide incentives for all kinds of businesses to locate in their areas to provide tax revenue and jobs. Without these incentives, the companies could and would go elsewhere. Same with sports teams.

I never said he is not spending money. I am saying that the salary cap in no way reflects the amount of money being spent on a salaries in a given year.

The only amount Jerry is required to pay is the guaranteed amount which is prorated over the length of the contract.

Just because someone signs a $100M contract does not mean he is guaranteed to be paid $100M.

      One thing I didn’t consider is how thin this draft is at quarterback. That’s going to drive up the market for backups and borderline starters like Willis, Jones, and Jameis Winston. Because of that, we’ll most likely be priced out of the market for this tier of backup.

      My determination has come down to this. Based on recent QB history, has Bryce's improvement warranted 50m per season? Lamar is the only original team QB to play on his 5th year. The others took major deals at the end of the 3rd, before or just after the option was signed. Chances are, we're getting asked for the same.  I haven't rooted for Bryce to fail. I've rooted for him to succeed so big that them signing that extension would give me no worries about our future at QB at all. We haven't seen that level of play consistently that this year. We haven't seen it in the past 6 games.  We're about to be at a threshold with Bryce and I worry about what this front office will do. We have a history of bad decision making and Morgan has been part of that group making those decisions. I don't want Carolina in the same boat Arizona and Miami are right now. It has nothing to with being right. It has to do with wanting to win for more than a single season. We've never had back to back winning seasons. Faith in their abilities is not warranted at this point.
