Doing some scary movie watching

Watched "Sinister". Creepy little flick.

Parents of preteens may come to fear them after watching this (assuming you don't already)

It was pretty good. Horror movies in which characters find footage of something - and leads to the story is always creepy (if done right).

Ethan Hawke's character was incredibly stupid however. If he had done 5 minutes worth of research before moving, he would have known what was going on.

Except...

...moving was what triggered the endgame. I saw that coming before Deputy So-and-So did.

And there's a certain irony about watching images portraying a demonic entity who gets into your life by having you view images of him.

Yeah I liked it, nothing amazing but definitely worth a rental.

It felt a little too much like insidious though, then again all these house horror flicks are alike.

I always wish they were a little more subtle. Asking yourself "did I just see that" amps things up much more than a blatant scare. Japanese filmmakers get that way better than American ones do.

On the topic of scaries, the original "Tales from the Darkside" episode was just on Chiller. It's the one with Bernard Hughes as an evil banker who plays a cruel Halloween game with the children of those who owe him. The irony of the ending - with The Devil telling him "You're getting warmer" as he's being led down a tunnel to Hell - was genius.

Had good luck again with "House at the End of the Street".

More thriller than horror, and a plot hole or two, but overall a pretty good story. Cool twist at the very end that I didn't see coming..

i cant stand scary movies. I watched "It" at age 7 and it scarred me for life. all i have to say is fug clowns.

"Sinister" was pretty good, I thought. A horror movie with no gore is rare these days.

I wouldn't say no gore but very little and effectively used.

They actually understood that suspense is scarier than blood and guts.

Also glad it wasn't "torture porn" (utter crap) or just an excuse to show naked teenagers.

Similar compliments for "House at the End of the Street". Early on, I thought they'd blown the big twist, but it was just a setup for further revelation later.

Forgot the other one I watched earlier today.

"The Raven" with John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe. Again, more thriller than horror, but maybe the best of the bunch.

I use to do the same thing as this kid in the rain ( make a paper boat and have it travel down to the drainage) suffice it to say i never did it again after this

Fewdio's short clips are pretty good ("Bedfellows" and "Anniversary" are quite clever). That one? If you don't already have a clown phobia, it'll give you one.

Couldda been worse though. I couldda queued up the clown from "Poltergeist" :blink:

(though after watching "Scary Movie 2" that scene kinda lost its bite for me) :wacko:

'Preciate the recommendations, Gents.. A good scary movie is hard to find these days, most are just too campy or over the top to actually scare you. The Strangers was the last scary flick I saw that I liked, that was scary...
