I doubt a third would happen, but I could see a fourth....

I saw the value piece but this is a unique situation where the 49ers can't afford to make all these picks. We may have to give up a 4th or 5th next year but I think we can get one of their 3rd's. They just don't have the room on there roster to make all these picks this year.

I agree if we give up another pick we could probably get it, but we're working with limited picks next year as well....

I don't know how deep next year draft will be right now. But what I know in this draft with 31,34, 44, 65, you can get 4 starters. That's how deep this draft is.

True, it's pick your poison really. We would have essentially two late firsts, a middle second and an early third....could do a lot of damage with that....

Nothing to report here. I don't see much of a reason for the 49ers to trade up to a mid 1st round pick. Its too early to target a specific player given we are picking at 14. They might be dipping their toes in the water but I dont think there is reason to get excited.

They really do have more picks than they can use. Better to dump them to get a really great player that they want. Imagine it, you have so many picks that your 2012 Super Bowl team won't be able to keep on the roster come 2013 regular season, you're gonna let quality players go regardless for no compensation, why not just target the player you're most in love with and throw away half your picks to get it? Then use the remaining picks to get players that will actually be on your squad.

If this trade ever happens, SF will never give up 31 and 34. It make much more sense to get their 1, 2 and our old 3. This is close on the draft chart and gives us the option of taking the 2 and going back up into the high teens/low twenties and getting a quality starter. This would finalize getting Alexander for moving down 5-7 slots. Not a bad conclusion for Hurney's last stand.

What can't miss prospect is worth taking at 14 when you can get two guys of comparable talent level at 31 and 34?

None of us know who will be there at 14 right now. That's why if we were to do the trade prior to the draft I would need that extra compensation just in case somebody we really wanted ended up sliding to us. Now if we are talking about a trade when we are on the clock and don't really love any of our options then I agree that maybe we consider moving down for a bit less. I wouldn't make that assumption right now, however, and make a trade based on that scenario.

I don't think anyone ever said a trade would happen before we were on the clock. I know I didn't....
