Tight Ends - Ton o Talent, will we use it?

Panthers have been paying into the Tight End kitty for a while but so far not getting the performance I have been anticipating in the passing game. Running game has been rocking as we all know in part due to superior tight end blocking

Jeff King, great blocking back with good hands, got a big contract.

Dante Rosario started last season off with a bang with that game winning catch in San Diego and he had a great game overall as Steve Smith was suspended.

Gary Barnidge has many people excited about his potential . . . 6'5" speedy guy who can stretch the field as well as a good blocker

I used to watch Shannon Sharp bail out John Elway time and again on third and long or as plays broke down. And Wesley Walls was the man inside the 20 yard line for the Panthers !

Hope that new Quarterback coach helps Delhomme learn to use these guys more. I love to see our Tight Ends get twice as many passes thrown their way this year and make more than twice as many catches!

the reason we don't use our TE's like we should and went through a spell prior to King where we acquired the position mainly for blocking has a great deal to do with the one behind center. That game is just not his bag. And when I say "that game" I am talking about finding the open man and making the easy play.

Unless the NFL let's us have multiple players wear the #89 no because that's the only # Jake Delhomme throws to.

Careful careful. The snugglers will be upon you and claim victory for your use of the word "only". Great heaps of stats are about to be dumped on you for that.

For the record I know what you mean though and you should not worry about the snugglers. They can't help that they like Jake and they have the right to. Just realize that your opinion and position on the matter will be constantly reinforced by the vehement defense that comes from the "other side". To me that always says a lot.

I think the shift in what we have been targeting has changed to more pass catchers and athletes than immobile, hands of stone meat-heads and that encourages me for two reasons.

That Jake is going to have more outlets to use as soon as he figures out how and that a new QB coming in will have a small stable of help to bail him out as he adjusts to the system.

I think all three are studs.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
