Had been wanting to see it since the trailers and finally did... Anyone else? What'd you think?

There were elements I wasn't happy with, but overall it was a good, complete movie, but I definitely had a sense of sadness from the turning point if the movie on. Still, I like how they wrapped everything up and came full circle. One of the more solid storylines I've witnessed in a while.

Fun fact: one of my fellow classmates from UNC was one of the producers of the film, although she graduated before me IIRC. Pretty cool though.

Yeah I wasn't expecting what I saw, the trailer really misrepresented the movie. Probably on purpose to draw in viewers. Regardless, I really enjoyed it. Wasn't perfect, but overall a pretty powerful film with strong performances.

Agreed with all of you. I was unhappy with the big twist, as it felt like a jarring surprise considering the way the film was portrayed in the trailers. That being said, after seeing the bulk of movies being put out lately with characteristic-less, depth-less characters, it was great to see a movie that intimately oulled you into each of the main players. And as scpanther said, the theme of fatherhood was really strong and resonant with me.

Haha, yes.

After how Scorcese threw Martin Sheen's character off the rooftop I should have seen it coming.

That is still one of my all time favorite films, and full of endless funny quotes.

Lol @ that parallel... I hadn't thought about that, but that's the perfect comparison. The Departed is one of my favorite movies of all-time, but I was so pissed when Leo got shot. I'm usually good with predicting what will happen, and I never saw that coming, lol...

I heard they were making a sequel but I just don't know how it would work.

Regarding TPBTP, I was equal parts disappointed and angry that Gosling's character was killed. It felt unfair, but I think that is yet another recurring theme throughout the movie. I was so hoping they'd tell Cross in the hospital that Gosling had made it, but from the looks of it, I knew it was a given that he didn't.

My wife and I were saying that it felt like two different movies as well. It was as though his story ended and Cross' story began from there. But, how they brought it full-circle and took you through the evolution and catharsis of each character was really endearing despite the sour taste left over from Luke being killed.

That being said, I really want to beat the living piss out of Cross' son in real life, lol.

Hadn't heard of a sequel. The Departed is actually a remake. The original is a Chinese movie called Infernal Affairs, which I hear is a very good movie itself. I keep telling myself, but I need to get around to seeing it.

Yeah I agree. One of the only things that annoyed me was how stereotypical they made Bradley Coopers son.

Yeah, iirc, I read about the possible sequel on the imdb page for the movie. I think I even read quotes from Mark Wahlberg on the casting and such. Could just be fan speculation, but fwiw, I would definitely be in line to see it. I didn't know it was a remake either, I thought it was completely inspired by the real-life mob boss in Boston that Nicholson's character was based on.

Looks like it was possibly in the works but is dead now, which is honestly a relief. I don't think Wahlberg could carry the movie himself. The performances from the likes of Dicaprio, Nicholson, and Damon made that film.

      While you're correct, people are just sick of being told, "you don't understand this, you're dumb" despite what their eyes say. This applies to the Panthers and anything else in life. This board can be a miserable place, but this isn't the old days anymore because Social Media & Reddit have hijacked old-school forum users.  I have in the last year or so taken a massive step back from Social Media & Reddit. Deleted accounts on both, I only have X/Twitter now. But I was looking for an outlet for Panthers talk and I did not want to do that on X much at all. There are only two legitimate outlets for that I've found, here and SB Nation. SB Nation I used to partake in, but they absolutely bumble-f*cked the comments section, and I like the setup of the posts + comments, as opposed to article + comments. Also, as others have pointed out, being a Panthers fan has been a horrendous existence since Cam left. Just an awful crew of coaches, draft picks, trading away great players, etc. It's been miserable.  Ever since Tepper bought the team, I hoped that he commit to a full rebuild. He never did, he thought there were shortcuts and so did Rhule. This hamstrung us for years, and then he massively overstepped with the BY trade.  This ruined the team building, because there was no depth, and then it ruined nuanced BY discussions because of the insane haul we gave up. He will never live up to that, I think many people are finally wrapping their heads around that now which is good. The best thing for this board to get better is for the Panthers to win more, draft well, and to stay committed to crawling through this Andy Dufrense poop-pipe to escape the depths of NFL hell. It will be ugly and stink along the way, but you can see already this year if we commit to drafting then the team and the vibes can turn around quicker than you think.  I am extremely optimistic about the draft class this season, it's something to watch, talk about, and celebrate. It also gives Dan and I think by extension Dave Canales more of a leash, which I think we need to give them and grant them the time to turn this boat around.
