Smart TV apps n' such

Jackofalltrades

We celebrated our recent move with the purchase of a new tv. I had a projection style 55" before and thanks to my horrible spine and balance I fell...through the screed.

So, I bought a Vizio 47" LED Smart TV and love it so far. The picture is incredible, the sound is very good and it's been a HUGE upgrade overall, but I know I can get more out of it.

There are several apps that are on or available on the tv, but none look to be a web browser or any kind, does that seem right? I thought you could surf the web on a smart tv, but I don't see anything that would allow me to do it.

Also, any apps you know of that you would recommed?

Thanks!

I don't think I've seen a web browser on a TV, but then again, I haven't looked.

Vizio is pretty good, lots of bang for the buck. I rarely use mine anymore because the QWERTY remote randomly unpairs itself and its a PITA to get the Bluetooth stuff going again. I don't remember a very large selection of apps and widgets to choose from. I only have Netlflix, Vudu, Pandora, weather something on mine.

Sorry you fell through your TV!  But at least you got to upgrade!

So all a smart TV is, is one with apps.  Any kind of apps, but it's really just that vague.  My "smart" TV has netflix, hulu, amazon instant video, youtube and pandora.  Then theres some other stuff, but I don't care.  When we cut cable, we just plugged the TV to the network, signed in and blam!  Instant options.  Some TVs (Samsungs?) do offer browsers, but I've never cared for them, or the PS3/Wii internet browsers.  I'm not sure there is enough processing power.

Hope that helps a little bit.  Good luck and enjoy your TV!

Ok, I was really just looking to use Netflix without having some other console attached to it. My kid gets to be a brat and the XBox goes up in a closet...I also like not having to pay for XBox live to watch it.

I love the picture quality and the sound is better than I expected. We are now 2/2 on Vizio's in the house.

    • It's not hate.  It's reality.   Yall are for real in here defending the state of Carolina basketball, predicting top recruiting classes when nothing has changed 8 miles down the road where they've been kicking our ass in recruiting for YEARS, and banking that it's all fixed with these hires.  I hope you're right, unfortunately I think you're not. I've been to every Final Four Carolina has been in during my adult life.  I've been to both Panthers Super Bowls.  If the Hornets play in anything meaningful, I'll be there too.  I root for these teams to win harder than anyone, but I also call a spade a spade.  Charles Lee sucks but the talent is good, Belichick sucks and who knows where that goes, and Canales sucks and so does the talent on the Panthers. Go to the Hurricanes forum, I've never said a bad thing about that team because while they've fallen short the last several years, they aren't a bunch of dipshits doing dipshit things in games / during the season.   But y'all keep pounding your chests that OUR teams have arrived.  Can't even imagine the level of disappointment that comes with that.
    • I don't find it unfair at all. Have you compared Coker's actual production to other second and third options in the league. Come on, man.  For the record, I am a proponent of the BPA. I don't care what position it is. Similarly, I am very much against reaching down over a superior player to get another one based on need. It's as simple as that.
