Judging by the preseason

I wouldn't say the offense looked great weak 1.

You have to realize the outcomes of the game could of been different if the starters played all 4 quarters. I really feel secure starters don't even try in preseason, nobody wants to get hurt.

Which is why the defense needs to be stellar and you have to agree they were less than against Philly.

You can't judge a defense or offense in preseason. Like it said none of the people locked for a roster spot even try. Nobody wants to get hurt, it's like the probowl. Most people consider Philly to have a top ten offense. Giving up 14 points to a top 10 offense isn't bad.

I don't agree with the "Nobody tries during preseason" notion. Everybody tries. Everybody is doing their level best to do what the coaches want them to do. Even the entrenched starters.

We have done nothing but run basic plays with an eye towards evaluation. Seeing how the players react to situations. Who can or cannot hold their own. Who can keep their lane. Who knows what to do in certain situations.

If you want a team that is going to pull out all the stops in a preseason game. A Ron Rivera coached team is not going to be your cup of tea.

I seriously doubt most starters put much into preseason games. How could they? I would assume these games are hated by the regulars.

Hated or not. Do you really think Rivera would let anyone half azz it? Plus, half azzing it is the surest way to get hurt.

Kraken pinched down, and did not hold his edge on Kolb's TD run. You don't think that wasn't brought up during film? Everyone gets critiqued. Not just the kids. Everyone. It is a teaching tool. And this staff is chocked full of teachers.

I know it is a popular belief that established players half azz preseason. It just is not true. At least not on a Ron Rivera coached team it isn't.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
