How about those RED SOX!

Good move for the Red Sox.....my first thought is WTF Oakland??!!!  Maybe it makes sense but initially I don't get it.

They are all in this year.  Lester-Gray-Samardizija-Kazmir looks like an All-Star team.  I definitely am rooting for them come October.

What a deadline.  Getting Craig and Kelly for Lackey I think is a good return and then one of the Orioles top prospects for Miller.    Heck, even trading with the Yanks in a salary dump of Stephen Drew.  Well done Ben Cherington.  It is nice to root for a team that has no problems selling and selling hard when the situation calls for it.

Also, Tampa did poorly in their return for Price.  Good day all around.

Now this excites the heck out of me.  Just two months ago my brother and I were talking about how successful these Cuban bats have been recently and how the Sox need to get some.  First they trade for Cespedes and now 2/3 of the OF is Cuban.  I figure being on the same team can only be a positive for both of them.  If this kid turns out to be the real deal then it is an incredible contract.  Still need a rotation but it is rare that a 56-72 team could make me so excited for the following season.

Reports say that the Sox are "all-in" on Pablo Sandoval.  Not sure how I feel about this.  Yes he fills two major needs (3B and can bat lefty) but the 6 year, $90 million contract he is looking for is a bit much to me for a guy with his numbers of late.

OPS

2011 .909

2012 .789

2013 .758

2014 .739

That is not exciting to me, not for that much money/years

Sandoval would be good for the Sox because he can DH as well.

Plus it fugs the Giants so there's that.

Hope you get the Panda.

He could help, although we do not need a DH, but 6/90 for someone with those declining numbers is still too much.  I get that he played 60% of his games at AT&T, Dodger Stadium and Pac Bell and those games are being replaced with Fenway, Yankee, and Camden, but I still do not feel that those numbers justify that many or those years.

    • This is gonna be longest six weeks ever
    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
