Wagner doesn't think Cam can beat them by throwing.

Cam had one of his worst games of his career against them last year.  12-29, and if I remember correctly, he threw a critical pass into the dirt when he had an open receiver for an easy td or first down.  I don't really blame them for wanting to make him beat them with his arm.  He is going to have to prove he can beat people with his arm.

LOL we'll see how long that lasts during Sunday's game. Remember Cam's rookie year when everybody tried to make Cam beat them with his arm? over 300 yards in the first 2 games almost 400 in the 3rd. I pray they commit to stopping the run

I don't remember those games at all. I remember 422 yards in the first game, then 432 in the second.

In the week 3 win against J'ville he passed for 180ish (during a monsoon)

Later against the Taints he went for about 375.

That's when teams realized this kid can shred a defense.

Eh... don't get me wrong, if this was just about any other team, I would laugh.  Newton, when his technique is right, can throw the ball with precision.  But Seattle's secondary is amazing.  If we do heavily rely on the passing game to win this game, then it will either be a long night or we will need Newton to have one hell of a game.  You simply aren't going to have receivers getting open against these guys.

I meant 400 plus in his first 2 games then 300 plus against the bears

Run defense is their worst area on D, by far. This sounds like reverse psychology, tbh. "I know we have a shitty d-line and awesome CBs, so why don't you try to throw on us? Please?"

You're missing the logic: With our D line rife with injuries but the with the the best secondary in the NFL, they can play man and keep 7 and 8 up. You don't have three receivers good enough to force them out of man coverage. At least not until you prove otherwise.

That is, they can play both effectively. Despite your O line concerns, that's your best match-up given our missing parts on our line.

In a few weeks when we have a fully stocked D line, they'll be able to scheme just about any way they want on D.

"Best secondary in the NFL". Umm who says? Media? Have not even played a game yet this year and you have the best secondary? Hmmm...

Even if the Seahawks beat us they are in for a really shitty season if they keep thinking every fuging game is a cake walk.

I haven't seen anything but respect for your team from the Seahawks. Where do you get this crap? One of their best attributes is taking one game a time.

Way to latch on to the germane part of the post. How about the match-ups? Or whether your guys would be more effective vs. man or zone?

Nah... let's pursue the pointless....

And, yes, best on the NFL or close enough for it to not matter. We have the Legion of Boom +1 with Thurmond added.

Disagree? State why rather than just try to twist my nipple.

But you saying you have the best secondary in the NFL at this point is ludicrous. That's what got me stirred up, play a few regular season games this year then we will see if yours is the best. That is all.

The Hawks know that their D-line is banged up. They are going to have to manufacture pressure through blitzes and such. I hope Rivera and Shula understand that short routes, screen passes, and a stout running attack are the way we have to beat them. The strength is in the secondary, the backers and safeties will be blitzing all day. This is not the week we try to beat a team deep every snap.

I agree completely. This is what I would do. We should to the opposite. We have the better back 7 and your greatest weaknesses are O line and receiver corps. You have the better front 7 and we have a good, but not stellar O line but a pretty good receiver corps. I think we should use the pass to open up the run this week.

Caveat: If Carpenter is 100% and gets significant reps, we'll be able to run. That would tilt this from a likely battle to more a 4.5 pt. favorite for us.
