I quit going to Myrtle Beach after I was old enough to buy beer. We went there (Cherry Grove) in HS and year or two after HS and most def raised hell, but after you turn 21 you have no business going there. 

 

Charleston area is awesome, but my favorite beach to go to is Wrightsville Beach. 

Myrtle is good for one thing........golf. Headed down the week after I go to Folly with a group of guys for a yearly golf trip which is another reason I didn't want to go there for Halloween. Although I must admit, they do throw the largest Halloween party I have ever seen.

 

If my girl didn't have a condo on Crescent Beach in Myrtle the only time I would go is for this golf outing. We go down a couple times a month in the summer but after 2 days I can't wait to get out of there.

Thought about that, but I will only be down there Friday and Saturday. With a trip into Charleston one of those days, I doubt I will have time to get in any fishing.

 

Guy I work with has been driving to some pier south of Myrtle that last few weekends and is killing the Spanish mackerel.

Just me and my girl looking for a place to do a birthday bash but just the two of us. We both like bar hopping but I wanted something more low key then Myrtle but still fun. We could stay in Myrtle, save a bunch of $ and do their big Halloween bash but I just want to do something different. How are the bars in Folly this time of year? The Tides was already booked up. I know Charleston is just a short drive also. The condo we are looking at is right near Snapper Jacks if that helps.

 

We usually stay on Kiawah Island and venture out from there. Folly is a real beach town with the cool vibe, and lower prices, but you've also got dilapidated homes next to really nice ones, and some sketchy people peppered into the local population. Gives it more character if you ask me. I haven't eaten or hit the bars there much, but you'll probably have a lot of fun just exploring. The good news is, with so many locals and Charleston so close there's never really a 'dead' time of year. We've been down on Folly Beach into November and it's still been in the 70's. Weather will be great, warm enough for shorts during the day, but cool enough your girlfriend will probably want to wear jeans or have a coat handy at night. For another low key option I recommend spending an afternoon in Mt. Pleasant at Shem Creek. Red's Ice House is a cool bar on the water: http://www.redsicehouse.com/locations/shemcreek/ They have sunset booze cruises out of the marina if you're interested in that, or they have a multilevel outdoor bar and pretty good drink specials. It has a good mix of locals of all ages and it's casual. R.B.'s Seafood is next door if you're looking for dinner. Basically the same view with more of a family restaurant feel. There are a number of other similar bars/restaurants in the area, but these are the ones I always meet my local Charleston friends at when I visit.

 

I've eaten in just about every restaurant in old Charleston and they're all good if you ask me. My favorites are Hank's Seafood and Poogan's Porch. They've been around a long time so they must be doing something right.

If you're interested in trying that whole 'farm to table' trend where they only serve local, seasonal foods, FIG and Husk are both really great restaurants. This time of year, if you're planning to visit one of these, I hope you both like collards, root vegetables and pork belly, haha. These are trendy restaurants, so if you're interested, you need to book a reservation now.

If you're heading into Charleston for the nightlife, King Street is the place. There are bars, restaurants and shops all up and down it. And the second Sunday of every month they close that street down to traffic and make it pedestrian only and all of the restaurants and bars set up shop outside in the street. It's really cool if you happen to be there.

Yea, there is a little bit going on...but Folly and for that matter Charleston are pretty quiet late nights, especially in the fall and winter.

 

If you are going to go into Charleston, you have to go to The Bar at Husk.

 

Don't fool around, it's a bar beside Husk.  Just sit down, and drink some good spirits and order the cheeseburger.  That's all, don't change it, or add anything, just the burger.

Folly is way relaxed nothing like IOP, I love the pier and peacefulness during the evening.
