This Randall Cunningham A Football Life

If you have ever wondered why Ron Jaworski refuses to give Cam credit for what he adds to the running game, watch this A Football Life.

Jaworski was replaced on third downs by Randall Cunningham. Eventually Randall permanently replaced him. They talk a ton about how Randall did not pass from the pocket, he was a scrambler unlike any before him.

Just watching this you can see the jealousy and anger Jaws must have felt. You can see why and how he despised the running QB. His career was ended by the emergence of Randall.

I'm not so sure he was the first but he was damn good at it.

There was Kenny Stabler, Fran Tarkenton, hell even the original Manning was a mobile QB.

Yeah, Cunningham definitely wasn't the first.  Tarkenton ran around a lot (Merlin Olsen once griped about how much he hated chasing him).  Staubach was pretty athletic too.

You could argue Cunningham was the best runner to date.

How does he feel about RG III? I find it funny that Cam has to learn to be a pocket pass in order to be seen as a viable QB according to the so called experts, but RG, Russell and Colin are allowed to run as much as they please.

Anyway, I keep telling you folks that those guys are simply told what to say about these players by TPTB in the sports media. Every ex-QB who works for any of the popular sports network, seems to enjoy criticizing Cam.

I was born in Philly was a die hard Eagles fan and I loved Randall he was the 1st scrambling QB..

he is the only QB that I know to punt in a game he played QB and holds a record for it.

He holds the record, but it still happens from time to time.

Brady did it not too long ago.

    • Doesn’t sound like any position is ruled out.
    • Wagner played both sides, i believe, but settled in at RT.  I'll take the RT that can play both sides if the play on the right side is on par with a couple other guys in question.  That's the tie breaker.
    • It's why I hated the Butler and Shaq picks. When we made those picks, DT and LB were probably our strongest position groups and we looked past huge needs to make luxury picks for depth and future development. Now if we'd drafted guys who developed into perennial All Pros, all good. But that's kinda what you need to justify those types of luxury picks. Some would argue that Shaq justified it. I wouldn't. Just because we ended up paying him like an All Pro doesn't mean he was an All Pro (note: he wasn't). Butler was an outright bust which makes it a really tough pill to swallow for a luxury pick.
