Let's get to it....

Free Agents:

Charles Tillman

So this is a carry over from my last mock.  Tillman is a great corner who is excellent at getting turnovers.  This guy will definitely sure up our secondary in the corner department.  With money being tight and we needing to resign some guys, Tillman will be our only big free agent, and perhaps he won't cost a whole bunch being a veteran looking for a ring.

Pretty good stuff. Would be nice if fantasies could come true. lol at a 7th round rookie ahead if tolbert on the depth chart

Sent from my SCH-I545 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

It's not as it looks.  As things stand right now, we know Tolbert isn't a full back for this team.  He is more of our running back.

I don't mind this at all but I would like to see a Tight end draft instead of that third guard, just because we have two young guards on IR right now who will be back next year to compete for those spots, an although we have Some developing talent at tight end, I don't think anyone can argue that cam will be even better on short yardage situations with a second Recieving tight end.

Love to see if we could make a move at Tillman. Like Verner a lot and he 'was' an underrated corner but not no more. I believe he will be the hottest and highest paid corner this offseason.

Like the first so picks a lot. Atm, I think we all are leaning toward Matthews due to where we may be picking. Hopefully we can land Hurst but I got a feeling he will be long gone by our pick.

I'm pretty sure we don't have a 6th round pick this year.

I love the Matthews pick. So much.

We don't need Peanut, he doesn't fit the mold of what we need at corner. We need a strong, stout, press cover corner, and peanut is not that. 5 nickels does not equal 4 quarters.

I doubt James hurst will be there in the 2nd, he's probably a late first rounder/early second. He's good. I would love to get him if he were there, though.

Can't see us giving up on Kenjon Barner this soon. I believe DeAngelo will be gone this off-season and we will roll into next season with Tolbert, Stewart, and Barner. I doubt we draft a FB. Rather use that on a raw secondary depth.

Yeah we probably won't give up on Barner.  Is it possible for him to be placed on the practice squad next year?

It definitely seems the two tight end system is being employed more and more around the league.  Of course Cam had it his first year here with Shockey and Olsen.  I guess the way I feel about it, if you have one great receiving tight end, that should be enough.  I remember Rivera saying something a year ago about why we didn't resign Shockey, was because of Tolbert.  Tolbert is pretty good at catching the ball, so I guess Rivera uses him as that kind of second tight end receiver.

I really really want a line that can flat out dominate next year. I'm not confident in guys like Amini and Kugz.  Wharton isn't getting any younger, and Chandler is something of a wildcard. (He could ultimately be a great G and T for that matter, but that remains to be unseen)  I hope we bring in a lot of competition in the offseason and hammer out two outstanding starting guards.

I'm hoping Hurst slips through the cracks because of the team he plays for.  North Carolina is not really known for it's football team, yet I suppose not knowing about a player because of their team is a mistake that would be made by fans but not a NFL GM looking for talent.  Yet there are a lot of tackles in this draft I feel would be a better option than Bell has been for us. (Bell just can't get any push in the running game)

Tillman can excel in any coverage be it press, man to man, or zone.  Of course as we know, he can force a lot of turnovers.  In eight game this year, he had 3 ints and 3 FFs.  The best thing about him however, is his familiarity with Rivera.  Ron was the Bears defensive coordinator from 2004-2006, that last year having the Bears in the superbowl.  So Tillman would fit in to Ron's defense.

    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
