Newton Blog; Smith on Chud (again)

"The Panthers can clinch a playoff spot with -- a win over New Orleans, an Arizona loss to St. Louis, a San Francisco loss to Seattle, a Philadelphia loss or tie with Detroit and a Dallas loss or tie with Chicago.

OK, maybe not the best odds this week. "

-I'm not gonna lie, those are actually pretty good odds.

Steve says a lot of things he probably shouldn't. What he said is true but is it really necessary to keep blasting your former coach publicly.

Steve is no longer a dominant player and it comes across as him not being able to accept himself as an average WR at age 34. It's like he has to give excuses as to why he is no longer putting up All Pro numbers.

However, the next day he'll go on the radio and talk about how he enjoys taking a back seat to the younger guys now and is just doing his part to help the team win.

Complete mind fug.

Disclaimer:

Before everyone comes running to call me an idiot and defend Steve like an overprotective mother, Steve Smith is, and will always be, my favorite athlete. I love that guy and want to see him finish his career here and play as long as he wants. He deserves a Super Bowl ring and I hope he gets one here. That said, he isn't perfect. He still says dumb stuff. Blast away.

he didn't say anything dumb.

And while you feel steve smith is nothing but an average receiver, those who know, give him hus respect weekly.

Most teams would love to have Steve Smith right now.

It's more than just numbers.

Smitty needs some stats.....

He needs postseason stats and a ring.  Regular season stats at this point don't mean much for having a shot at the HOF IMO..

I agree with you and I think if we get into the playoffs which I feel we will. I think him along with everybody else is going to step there game up in the post-season because they will know its one and done.

I truly mean it when I say "There is no reason not to love this guy."

Some people may think he says "dumb stuff" but I think it's refreshing to see a player speak his mind instead of robotically repeating the company line.

His body of work in the NFL so far puts him in a serious discussion for the HoF. Nobody thought he would be much more than an exciting punt returner and a few years later he achieves the receiving TRIPLE CROWN!!!

There is no player in the league like Steve Smith for a myriad of reasons.

The post season holds tremendous weight. That is the only reason wide receivers like John Stalworth and Lynn Swann are in the HOF. Super Bowls go a long way.  If those 2 never won a Super Bowl they would be "also rans" in the history of pro football.

how larry gets in over smith i don't know.........different note smith gets open and separation lol he kills his own yardage when he does a half spin into 3 defenders lol plus he doesn't get as much targets

Numbers....Fitz's regular season numbers are better. Added bonus, Fitz owns the best single postseason numbers for any WR in NFL history.

How is 89 ahead?

Pretty much what Smith is saying is that Chud is all about chucking the ball down field irrespective if the OL and personnel are suited for it. Yes you can rack up a bunch of yards but you won't be winning much game. Pretty much summarize the 2011 and 2012 years for us.

What really do pro players want out of the NFL?

Most who are accomplished have the money the need for the rest of life....................but they want two things out of their NFL career...

A SB ring(s) and a trip to the HOF......................and the fastest way to get to the HOF beyond your longevity and stats is to get to the SB and win.

Ask Dan Marino about the value of stats................

Ask Terry Bradshaw about the value of SB rings................
