This is a very nice play and had "big play" written on it, but this time it is Thomas Davis who makes the nice play and Luke helps to clean it up.

It's an off-tackle FB lead and a pulling OG (has a Stretch Play action). There are two release OL to take on LBs Kuechly and Davis. At the point of attack there are two lead blockers (the FB and pulling RG Jahri Evans) to take on two defenders (LB Chase Blackburn and CB Munnerlyn).

There's a huge hole in the line and second level engagements. Ingram has a clear path to run into and Kuechly is totally out of the play (he was aggressively attacking the outside gaps and being blocked as well).

The key is now the block of rookie LT #72 Terron Armstead v LB #58 Thomas Davis in open space.

Thomas Davis : 6'1", 235 lbs

Terron Armstead : 6'5", 305 lbs

Armstead gets his initial engagement on the move but is playing very high. Since Armstead has no leverage, Davis puts his left hand on Armstead's chest and shoves him aside. This clears Davis and he is able to make the tackle.

The great play here is Thomas Davis.

    • well i could go on & on but i will just highlight it by saying big difference trust me from the SEC & NFL.it's honestly like comparing apples & oranges especially when you are talking about a  LT. in the NFL you are going up against the most athletic freaks of nature the world has to offer . .the NFL also has much more exotic & complicated defensive schemes than what they are used to seeing at Georgis &  finally but most importantly you have to learn how to master complex bio mechanics where the body kick steps instantly as a reaction to these world class athletes rush without really making a conscious effort it's more of a learned muscle memory  & it can take thousands upon thousands of reps to master rproper technique for a LT in the NFL especially if you are still very raw like Monroe Freeling is    ...just saying
    • All that being the case or maybe being the case, we do not know Wharton’s timetable n the first place. They are being coy about it. Or maybe not. They say week to week the board says he is terminal lol and must be replaced. Who knows? It may or may not warrant a fairly drastic solution.  Walker is a bargain and we are not well stocked at OL despite recent investments. Freeling has yet to have a single padded practice. Too much speculation driving this plan IMO.
    • I would really love to know who’s actually making these moves because it’s weirdly vague who’s doing the hiring and firing.
