Saints are well into the red to....lol.

Wondering...how are the Broncos better off than we are and paying Manning???????

Tons of rookie contracts. They only have three players making more then 4 million this current season and that's Manning, Welker and Bailey. Almost all their skill players on offense are on rookie deals.

Has a conclusion been reached re: whether or not we can/will rollover the cap savings from the 2013 season? If so, that could be an additional 15-17mil we're not accounting for.

If you look on there you'll see adjusted Cap space. If you look at the Panther's you'll see they have 137 million in adjusted space, which means those numbers are factoring in Rollover. The reason the Panther's don't have more space is that the team has over 12 million in dead money with most of that due to Beason's restructure.

Am I reading this correctly I have heard several mentions that cutting Godfrey saves 5 mil

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/charles-godfrey/

We are entering 2014 so he has a cap hit of 7.1 mil but if we cut him there will be 5mil in dead money. From my readings it would only save 2.1 mil unless there is something about salary cap I do not know about. Heck if it only costs at 2 mil it makes perfect sense to keep him. On the otherhand you will get 4 mil in savings in 2015 and 5.4 mil in 2016. I think Hurney planned on cutting him in 2015 if he wasnt performing.

Was told if Godfrey is a June1 cut we save 5M, can't confirm this nor does it make sense since cutting him in 2015 it only nets us 4M, but if true 5M goes a long way in bringing needed players back.

June first just spreads the cap hit over two seasons. The amount of dead money is the same. So by doing that we push dead money into the year we have to pay Cam.

Gotcha, then Godfrey is to be cut or restructure in order to stay here. To put it into perspective, 5M would probably go as far as: paying for all of our 2014 draft players, paying Mitchell/Ginn, or Gross/Bell. (Might not want those guys but you get my point)

How the fug will the Saints pay Graham, Vilma, De La Puente and Strief, and still be able to get some FA signing?

Can they pull off the Graham te franchise tag he will cost less than $7M. And they can keep tagging two more years and still pay him under $10M per year.

Vilma is over the hill and not that great to start with, he will come back cheap.

So I don't think we can hope to see the Saints go back to their usual lousy self as long as brees holds up his current level.

I'm curious what range everyone think Mitchell will be in to resign? I think he worth a lot more than the 1 mil he got this year. The season he had this year was better than pretty much any of Godfrey's and he got the big deal.  Should be interesting to see what kind, if any, DG tries to give him.

The only issue I see is that some of these guys that are FA's, are going to want to increase their salary each year. I think Ginn will need more than what he was paid last year. I think the assumption is that you would pay them what they made last year, but they will all be looking for an increase in pay.

20 FA's could be dangerous for this team, with many of them contributing significantly.  The old regime's contract situation reminds me of the Al Davis era in Oakland.

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
