Eric Decker Going FA

Someone will overpay him, Gettleman is smarter than that. I really think Nicks had more potential as a future #1 guy (and cheaper), he was just stuck in an awful offense, while Decker benefitted from a historically great offense

Sorry, but as of right now Nicks doesn't look even like a number 2. I love Nick as a UNC player. But he would have to stay healthy and come here on a 1 year contract and show that he can be a solid player for us. The guy has had to many injuries in the past few years. The guy has lost  a step. Sign him and let him come in and prove himself at this point. That's the way I see it happening.

Lets unload Hardy to the Broncos for their first rounder then:

grab a WR and Corner in the first and a WR in the 2nd

OR trade both 1sts for an early first and get Clowney.

I like the first 2 ideas. But the 3rd one would be the dumbest move ever. We don't need Clowny and it wouldn't be wise to use 2 late 1st round picks just to move up to get him. If we do that we mind as well go after Waktins instead so we can have a WR threat on the outside. I whether would keep the 2 late 1st rounds and use them on 2 WRs and then the second round pick on an olineman. Then so on.

I didn't watch many Giants games last year so I'm probably biased by remembering how he played from 2010 to 2011. Pretty sad if he really has lost a step already at 26. But yeah either way I wouldn't want him on anything longer than a 2 year deal, and preferably 1.

Eric Decker is a good WR, I just don't know how good.  It's tough to place a value on him with him playing with Manning, Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker, and Julius Thomas.  He's just one of many weapons for a very good QB.

One thing to consider though is that Gettleman said he wants touchdown scorers.  Eric Decker is an elite touchdown scorer at the WR position.  On his career, 15% of his completions go for TDs.  That's insane.  For reference, here's the numbers for a few other guys in that category:

Megatron:  11%

Andre Johnson:  6.5%

Demaryius Thomas:  12.5%

Julio Jones:  11.5%

AJ Green:  11%

Steve Smith:  8%

Larry Fitzgerald:  10%

And before you say that 15% figure for Decker is a product of Peyton Manning, he was scoring TDs at an 18% clip prior to the Broncos signing Manning.  Dude just has a nose for the endzone.  He's at 14% with Manning.

One of the reasons Denver will let him walk is because Decker believes he should get #1 money. Smith may now be the for real #2, but the Panthers will never make that public nor will they elevate someone to #1 as long as Smith is putting on a uni.

Agreed, and honestly I don't care who they call number one or two I just want playmakers at that position.

Face it Decker will command a big contract. His agent will see to that. Don't expect us to go after him. We have Hardy on the radar right now. He is important to our D right now and we need to sign him first. If we can't afford him then what give you any hope we can afford Decker? Since he will be on a lot teams radar come next month. We want have a chance.

Hardy is going to demand more on the open market than Decker will.  I hope that we can lock up Hardy, but if we can't, I wouldn't be mad at all if we took a good chunk of that money and used it to lock up a young legit starting caliber WR.

Well Decker want be one of them. Decker is going to be the number one WR out there to go for in the off season. Along with Baldwin I believe. Both them will be getting a bunch of offers from teams will a lot more money then we have. Beyond them 2 there really ain't no young WRs coming on in the FA this off season worth putting a ton of money into. We might put a 2 year contract offer to Nicks or Maclin. Neither worth putting serious money out there to offer them. Whether use that money and put it on a young WR been drafted in the first round in this year draft. But I doubt we have a chance at either Decker or Baldwin at this point. We have to fill wholes in our roster before we try to go after FAs.

    • Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.
    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
