Fantasy Article on Marvin McNutt

I do think McNutt will blow up this year now with Lafell most likely gone.....His almost catch against ATL that was almost a TD was a great non-catch.  He just needs some more time to work with CAM....how many throws at each practice do you think he actually received from CAM..very few I would think.....Hopefully these guys are hungry and are meeting up during the offseason to get some chemistry......KEEP POUNDING!!

MARVIN MCNUTT DRAFT BIO

Overview

McNutt was a starter for the better part of the last three years at Iowa and a physical presence on the outside. He is a strong player who catches the ball well and can run through arm tackles once he gets the ball. McNutt has the size to excel at the next level and also has displayed the explosion and speed to project him to be a factor. He plays a bit hesitant at times when blocking in run support and running through traffic.

Analysis Strengths

McNutt is reliable to get his hands on the ball and make a tough catch when it's thrown anywhere near him. He has good awareness to get open on broken plays and drag his feet along the sidelines. He is a viable possession-type option for quarterbacks looking to pick up a quick first down.

Weaknesses

McNutt can struggle when running routes across the middle. There are consistency and effort issues when blocking and running decoy routes that aren't intended to him, and he can struggle off the line if he isn't decisive and powerful with his first step.

Never heard so much praise for an "almost catch."

That being said, ee need to see him actually play before idiots claim he is project at best.

His draft analysis actually said he can catch, and that's one we need. He just didn't get his feet down, unlike Lafell who can't catch

If he is such a good prospect, would have liked to see him on the field during the season.  I don't recall a more 'hyped' WR sitting the bench ... except for Armanti of course.

He came on mid season, and i don't think he has as "hyped" as he is just the next guy up.  Doesn't look like Lafell will be back and even though Ginn may be back he's not a number two.  The reason guys are trying to find something to like about McNutt is because he's technically the number 2 receiver right now.  Just saying.

Rivera is bad at judging offensive talents.  He thought Legs was the answers as well as Louis Murphy.  LaFell might not be that good but he is better than both of those and Ron put LaFell on the bench over Legs.  If McNutt is good, he will injure himself trying to prove it to Ron because if you are not one of his guys, you won't get much of a chance.

Yikes .... He came on to what mid-season ... the roster?  I don't recall seeing him except for one play last year.

I really hope they aren't putting too much faith in the 'prospects' to line-up opposite of Smitty on Sundays.  We are a playoff team now and need to take full advantage of the situation by filling holes ... even with our salary cap woes.  I agree about LaFell but the WR hole needs to filled with a quality vet during FA and/or the draft.  I hope one of our prospects steps-up to be a major contributor but lets not count on that going into the season.

I agree that we need to bring in some more talent but right now this is what we have.  Gettlemen said all these guys need is a chance.  I hope McNutt turns out to be a good player but as you said we are a playoff team and Cam needs weapons, even if McNutt is decent we still need more, including a surefire number one receiver.

    • Regardless of how we got here, any rational fan should be excited by how well Bryce played down the stretch. Anyone not happy about that level of play either doesn't know what they're looking at, or they're still trying to drive tired narratives. Obviously, Cam had an all-time rookie season, and I'm not putting the two in the same basket yet, but as someone who has watched every snap of Panthers football since the start of the new millennium (Im old), Bryce was playing at a higher level at the end of 2024 than Cam was at the end of 2012 (his 2nd season). Cam continued to develop into MVP form, something Bryce has to prove, but as someone who watched both (and will stan for Cam always), Bryce was playing at a higher level to end year 2 than Cam did.  Go watch the film if you dont believe me. None of that means anything for the future. But the people who said BY9 couldnt play in this league are wrong.   That being said, the only thing that matters is this year. #20 is perfectly fair IMO going into the season. I mean think about it, how would you rank him??!  His in-season turnaround is one of the wildest things I've ever seen... how do you rank a guy who looked like a massive bust in September and by January was consistently playing at a top 10 level? My excitement level is pretty damn high heading into this season. There were throws from the Chiefs game onward where Bryce had Drew Brees levels of anticipation. Im excited to see what he can do with a full deck on offense, something we really never gave Cam. Really hope and expect Bryce to move up this list this season.
    • Not really, the only QB's (other than Anthony Richardson) ranked below him are new to their teams as a placeholder starter or drafted in 2024 or 2025, not a lot of gymnastics to get there. It's not about how many that is, if it's 20, 12, or 2... It means there isn't a QB who's team has committed to them for the long term right now that they have ranked below Bryce. That's not a great thing.
    • The changes to onside kicks were ridiculous and ruined a significant part of the game     It was already a high risk low reward play.  Why change it?
