WR Free Agents.

A dam monkey spinning a wheel with names on it could have drafted a better bunch.

This list is a good enough reason to have fired the guy. Then there was the contracts... How he stay employed for so long is beyond me.

Except that's not the full story.

I'm gathering the full story now.  I recommend you place any and all sharp objects out of reach before you read it.

Receivers drafted by Marty Hurney...

- Walter Young - 7th round, 2003

- Keary Colbert - 2nd Round, 2004

- Drew Carter - 5th Round, 2004

- Dwayne Jarrett - 2nd Round, 2007

- Ryne Robinson - 4th Round, 2007

- Brandon LaFell - 3rd Round, 2010

- Armanti Edwards - 3rd Round, 2010

- David Gettis - 6th Round, 2010

- Kealoha Pilares - 5th Round, 2011

- Joe Adams - 4th Round, 2012 (I had completely forgotten about him

I'm depressed now :(

In time let's hope were saying the complete opposite about gettleman, this will likely be his first attempt draft picking a wide receiver, the guy is smarter than Hurney, you always felt like Hurney reached for players and position, I never see Gman doing the same, as someone has pointed out the guy always picks BPA even if it means stacking up one position like he did at the giants.

In a nutshell gettleman is a better talent evaluater than Hurney because of his scouting background, we have probably one of the most knowledgable GMs or player evaluation in the league, that may sound abit full on but I believe so.

Not much of an analyst are you? Maclin, Decker, Boldin and Hicks weak.

Any one of these guys would be a HUGE upgrade over LaFell. Sitting at 28 the chances of a TOP TIER WR in round 1 is very slim. Oh you can reach and take a 2nd round prospect in round one. Or you could take a smaller gamble and take on of these guys.

which receivers in the draft do you consider "top tier"?

Hurney couldn't draft for offense to save his life (job).

The guy was about to make me no longer be a Panthers fan.

That's just the receivers we passed on for inferior talent, and it's not an exhaustive list.

Trust me, if I posted some of the other talent we passed on, people would be clawing their eyes out :(

Oh, I'm aware.

I was the conductor on the "fire Hurney train" for a very long time.

Look at our offensive roster and see what Hurney drafted.  It's enough to make you physically ill.

I tried defending him up until a day when I decided to review something like the last five drafts at the time.

When I sat down and looked at those results, I just couldn't do it anymore.

You and Cyber....two guys who are pretty level headed....Cyber still defends him.  I couldn't understand it.

Linebackers and Runningbacks galore though....

A Super Bowl buys you a lot of cred...

In 03 and 05, it really looked like we were gonna be good.  Even in 08, up till the playoff disaster.

Looking back on it now, it's pretty clear Seifert left us in a good spot despite the final record.  high draft picks and some decent free agent pickups helped for a while.  That, plus as I recell our division was overall weaker back then.

But what we had wasn't sustainable without good drafting and management.  It was only a matter of time before we fell to earth.  And when we did, ouch :(

It's almost surprising we had the success we did.

Seifert left us much better than what fans like to remember.

Either way, I hope that DG has a better eye for offensive talent, and understands the game well enough to get the right pieces.

You missed out these guys.

Emmanuel Sanders

Tiquan Underwood

Jericho Cotchery

James Jones

Mario Manningham

Jacoby Jones

Riley Cooper

Jerome Simpson

Andre Roberts

Dexter McCluster

Josh Morgan

I actually like the kid from the bucs Underwood big tall deep threat looked a nice player to me and would be cheap If Tampa don't bring him back, if be happy with him & McCluster plus a draft pick up at receiver, both cheap deals and McCluster is a good proven slot guy that people are talking about with drafting Brandon Cooks.

James Jones is a really good friend of mine. He and Ron Rivera have the same agent. He's a beast, and gets under utilized in Green Bay

Given his history, I'm not sure you can call Kenny Britt "low risk".

Low risk is, for me, meant to evaluate the amount of damage he could do to this team be it financially or otherwise , not himself. Sure he could go to Jail or get injured etc but that wouldn't really hurt as a team given that we wouldn't pay him a lot nor be content with just him as our WR future.
