We MIGHT* be tagging Hardy *Zod is in denial

Hardy seems like a player that would give you a much higher rate of play if you just keep feeding him remarkable, incentive laced one year deals! Don't let him get fat and lazy! He believes in himself enough to shoot for the moon....let him have the chance. Multi year comfort deals will spoil him to render him ineffective

The only reasons I see us tagging Hardy for is either a) They are working on long term contract with him right now and just tagging him for temp to make sure he doesn't go on to the FA market next month. b) We are tagging Hardy and preparing to trade him to another team right now. I just don't see us tagging him just to keep him one more season and then let him walk next season. That would be stupid. We have was to many needs to be filled for us just to use 60% of our cap just keep Hardy around one more season. There has to be some reason behind this long term. I'm hoping we find out with the next few days to week from now before FA begin.

Personally, I would rather just let him walk this year and use the money to shore up our immediate needs. Cam has done a lot to make up for a porous OL and weak receiving core. But Heaven forbid he should go down running for his life, because the next man up won't be able to do what Cam does. Sometimes you're better off just cutting your losses and moving on. Just my .02

Im in the minority here but Hardy just strikes me as the type that will take it easy once he gets paid. If he gets paid dont be suprised to see a big drop off in his play. You can save this comment and revist it midway through next season.

Agreed, but less likely on a one year deal! The day he wants a high dollar multi year deal is the day he walks.....he strikes me as one that will become invisible.

That said, one of two things will happen with this tag:

1) He plays his ass off for landing a multi-year major deal or

2) He fakes an injury all season and plays 2015 contract year off his 2013 merits

I hate big money contracts. Just look at players that get big money deals and see a huge drop off. Vick, Stewart, Peppers, Beason. Keek and Cam are the only two players I can say with 100% confidence they wont get slack after getting big money and are truely driven by winning. Hardy seems to be the exaxt type that will stop caring after a big money deal. I just dont trust him like that.

Wish we could trade Hardy plus a 3rd to grab Clowney. Hardy is a better player at this moment, but we'd still be good and it would sure would save us a lot of money.  Texans aren't dumb enough to do it though.....maybe we can pull the trigger on that if he's still on the board when Cleveland is up.

Just no. If we can trade for a top 5 pick, its instant franchise tackle. then a WR at 28. That's the ideal.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
