Just got into grad school for architecture in Colorado.  Thing is I moved to DC only about a month ago for a corporate marketing job but think I'm gonna make the leap out west.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Was thinking of going back to school myself...

I've worked since I've been 16, mostly retail/food. Went to CPCC for a year and a half just going through the transfer program thinknng it was the thing to do.

Fast forward now, I'm 25, been a Store Manager for Starbucks for two years now. I was a Sales Supervisor for 3 years before that at Best Buy, and before that was a Assistant Manager for 2 years at Starbucks. My question is, is it worth the time and effort to go back and get a degree? I already for 50 hours a week easily, and during holidays 60+. They offer "tuition support" but need to maintain my job etc. I feel like I'm stuck in the same career path and can't change due to lack of degree or skills in other jobs. Anyone with more experience or situation like mine would be awesome.

Dude................your 25 and can do what ever the fu*k you want to do.

Go for it!

Anybody have any experience with accrue partners in charlotte? Looks like they're a hiring agency and wanted to see if anyone had any experience with them. Got a call recently and they're wanting to set up an interview

I have used them to recruit accounting/ finance professionals when we have openings. They are very professional and do a great job.

Graduated in December with a bachelors in accounting and finance. Working as a seasonal tax preparer now but that ends next month. I've been putting out a lot of resumes but few bites thus far.

I am essentially in the same boat. Did you ever figure anything out? I have an accounting degree and I feel like I may be flipping burgers pretty quickly. I am thinking I may have to go back to school and go to law school or something to get a job. Maybe move to Atlanta? I have no idea.

Nothing new to report. Haven't really looked into Atlanta so I can't say if it would be much easier to find something there. It's definitely disappointing to not be able to find anything. I read an article on yahoo last week saying college students who graduate in accounting have the highest success rate at finding jobs. If true I feel bad for all other majors.

Where did you get your accounting degree and what was your GPA? I am surprised that you are struggling to find an entry level acctg position...that industry and market us actually strong right now.

What tools are you using in your job search? Hopefully it is not Monster and the classifieds.....terrible places.

Are you in Charlotte? If so, shoot me a pm and I will give you some contacts at various finance search firms in town.

I have been using sites like monster, indeed, and career builder and they definitely seem to be a black hole. What would you suggest to use or do?

You will get VERY little from those sites.

You need to contact several of the finance search firms in Charlotte.  Here is 4 that I know are good:

Accrue Partners

Talent Bridge

Sherpa LLC

Premier Resources

These firms specialize in entry level to manager level positions.

So, as someone who works at Facebook, I'd say that you could easily get in, depending on your personality. I graduated with two associates degrees (networking and information security), and I got a job at FB pretty much a month later due to team fit.

Especially with an engineering degree, I'd say you could come into the data center scene (where I am now) work a year or so doing hardware repairs/software technology, and get a software/systems engineering job.

So what do you think was the key to getting your job with Facebook? What advice do you have for someone trying to make it with a company like that?

For Facebook specifically, it all depends on culture fit. Do you have the right attitude, etc. googleyness is the term google uses.

The key components as far as what you need to know are pretty simple. Do you know computer hardware? Linux? How to do bash/python scripting? (Perl is also asked about, but no one really uses it). And that's pretty much it.
