I didn't put a spin on it... If you watched and listened to the presser, you know what Gross said. He said, "when he first got here." But, regardless, when have you ever heard Gross say that about anyone before? Even in jest, that seemed out of place there. Why say that as you're retiring? To have said anything like that at all suggests there were still some abrasiveness between them.

Nope.  Gettleman is an unquestioned genius.  Smitty was on his last leg.  Ozzie Newsome knows nothing about building competitive teams.  Gettleman has been doing this a lot longer.

Gettleman clearly stated when he got here, and reiterated it this off season that because of our cap problem, it will be two to three years before we can be real players in free agency. Until then we have to be patient and find diamonds in the rough. Do none of you pay attention? Why is it so fuging difficult to get that through your thick skulls?

Bingo!!!!!!  A lot of these Panthers fan that are whining  have thick skulls and are not capable of paying attention. If they were, then they would realize that Hurney and bad choices got us into this cap hell .

Gettleman is trying his darnest to slowly but surely get us out of it but since we didn't get there overnight we aren't going to get out of it overnight.

None of us know what Gettlemans plan is,it may not be written in stone but one that will constantly change. I realize that makes fans anxious but we can at least be patient until the draft and other teams start cutting good players to see how this will play out. Last year Gettleman did a good job obtaining undervalued players at a decent price ,I see no reason he will not do it again.

Why wouldn't we jump all over that.  It was awkwardly placed considering the circumstances.  He was retiring and it was his farewell presser?  Why mention "last season?"

 

You don't find it coincidental that Gross also then mentioned to the media (I think it was Voth) after his retirement that he had just talked to Smitty on the phone and that Smitty was concerned saying that going out on his terms was something he was worried about as well.

I'm not a capologist either, but both had cap numbers of 7M, Godfrey's being 7.1M.
