Intresting Panther Factoids From The Pro Football Almanac

From Football Outsiders (formally the Pro Football Prospectus)

- They see our schedule as the second easiest.

- They don't see much in Goodson's future but do see him as better than Goings (who made several hundred K more than Dwill last year)

- Jake is the fifth best QB out of the shotgun in the NFL according to their stats.

- Their mean win prediction is 8.3 (highest in the South by a smidge).

- They point to a pretty good pass D but not such a good run D.

- Charles Johnson is seen as a possible sleeper.

- They see lack of depth on both lines as a concern.

- They think Baker is the biggest weak link on ST's.

- They point out that Meeks is very anti-Blitz and wonder how that will work with Fox's zone blitzing schemes.

- Carolina was third from the bottom in running draw plays.

Curious to see how they came to that conclusion. I don't put a lot of stock in last years records, mainly because only half the playoff teams from last year make it the following year. But 2nd easiest? Interesting.

Same, I'm wondering the reason behind this.

Also the highest mean wins is 8.3 for the NFC South?!

2nd easiest out of the NFL or the NFC South or Other?

Sounds crazy to me, I'd like to hear their criteria for call . . .

And what would be their 5 hardest schedules?

I'd be interested to see their predictions for us from last season.

10.something on their mean projected wins.

They're usually pretty on the money. They saw Dallas as not doing all that much last year with the logic that they'd avoided injuries for too long. They feel the same about Philly this year as well, at least as far as not doing all that well.

    • This is where we begin our "slide" similar to Matt Rhule's 2nd season Panthers L 35-9
    • Everyone is seeing it now, but nobody wanted to listen to me when I was saying all these things for well over a year leading into this draft.  And it's not that it's sneaky speed, it's like I said, he's not a quick twitch guy that has super burst off the line, but once he gets going with those long strides, he really gets moving.  Everyone was so sacred about potential 40 times, he was never going to be that kind of guy to have a crazy fast time, but he has more than enough speed to be an elite WR in this league given everything else he brings to the table. Which is why using him on the underneath stuff isn't a bad strategy, he excelled on those in college since he's catching it in full stride and was good at getting YAC on those routes.  The problem is Canales' play design and calling, the great coaches run certain plays to set up later plays that get that player running wide open across the middle just 7 yards downfield, but with acres of space and at full stride, and Canales just doesn't have that in him. But also yes, we need to be throwing more jump balls to him when there's no safety help on the outside, it seems like Canales won't let Bryce check to it for some reason, as he never does. Yep, I saw AJ in him from the second he stepped foot onto the field as a Freshman, to me the closest direct comp. But in the pre-draft process I saw someone say he's a combo of Plaxico and V-Jax and I couldn't help but feel that was scary accurate.
    • appears so don’t see him on the bench either.
