How About Some Honey Mustard

So with it looking like the majority of our new blood at the WR position will be brought in through the draft I wanted to share one of my favorite late round prospects with you guys.

Damian Copeland #7 University of Louisville

(affectionately nicknamed "Honey Mustard" because of his multi colored hair)

He measured in at a disappointing 5'11" after being listed at Louisville as 6' almost his entire career.  Weighed in at 185 so it seems there is some wiggle room to beef him up.  40 yard dash looks modest at 4.5 flat but the top end speed has never been his strength.  His agility is what makes this guy one of my favorites.  His first step is a blur.

I want to take a look at some other numbers he posted that I think would play more into where I think he could excel at the next level:  As a slot receiver.

He posted the second highest vertical of any WR at the combine with a 40" vertical.

Fastest 3 cone drill at the combine: 6.53 seconds

Second fastest 20 yard shuttle at 3.9 seconds (Cooks 3.81)

Second fastest 60 yard shuttle 10.84 (Cooks 10.72)

The numbers support that the agility and acceleration are there. He is a great strong hands catcher and has pretty exceptional body control.  He wont be a homerun threat in the NFL but with his hands, agility and ability to cut up field in a hurry there is no reason he couldn't fill a Danny Amendola, Wes Welker slot type role for Carolina.

At Louisville he was the number 3 target in the passing game behind (likely first round pick next year) Davante Parker and (Bridgewater's closest and oldest friend) Eli Rodgers.  In a game where Parker was sidelined with injury and Louisville needed plays (Rutgers) Bridgewater looked to Copeland and it payed dividends.  Watching that game everybody know were the ball was going and nobody could stop Copeland.

Here are a couple of videos that showcase some of his talents.

Highest I've seen him mocked so far has been the 6th round with the vast majority being 7th-UDFA.  Would love to take a flier on a great kid and a fantastic athlete.

Would love to have him on the team honestly. The guy just makes some crazy catches and he has some solid hands. I think he's looked at as a 3rd day pick because of his injury history.

Nice to see another Cards fan on the board. Yeah I was watching the stream of his pro day and had to post. Injuries and age would be the only down sides. But! If he stays healthy he could and will be a force.

    • Jalon Walker not looking like a bust? That can't be right.
    • To be fair. Our GM is the assistent of the worst GM in NFL history.  We pay trillions of dollars on the Oline and cant pass protect or run.  We pay trllions of dollars on the D-dine and cant pass rush.  We cant draft. We are a bad team. With a bad owner and really bad management.
    • Stud: WR Tetairoa McMillan In the midst of all the incompetence and mediocrity, there's one shining hope for the future of this franchise. Rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan led the team with six catches and 100 receiving yards. He also had an extremely impressive one-handed catch wiped out becaue he couldn't quite stay in-bounds. McMillan is a bit slower, but there are flashes of some Julio Jones in his game. His route running and YAC ability are both far better than they were advertised coming out of the draft.   Or, you know, exactly what anyone who watched enough of his tape would have known.   Honestly, our Arizona board could never understand this knock on him in the pre-draft process, because we all knew it wasn't true.  And sure, we're fans who watched all his games, but you'd think the experts who supposedly watch all the snaps of these type of prospects would have been seeing it too, it was glaringly obvious to us. Seriously, how many times did I say here that he could run every route needed?  How many times did I talk about his surprisingly good run after catch ability for someone his size?  How he wasn't a burner, but he was amazingly smooth for a 6'5" WR? As I've said, only 2 players from Arizona, both football and basketball, have I ever felt they were 1 million percent can't miss stars in the pros.  T-Mac and Gronkowski, that's it.  One is the greatest TE in NFL history, the other is about to take Smitty's mantle as the Panthers WR GOAT when all is said and done.
