Canes sign Justin Faulk to 6 year extension

I think JR is scared that if he gives short term contracts to those guys they'd outplay them and bolt for more money later on so this is his way of keeping them around.  Unfortunately when they start to fade we're left with a massive cap hit and an untradeable player.

Well... I mean, I guess that's good.

But, we're sure spending a lot of money on players who can't seem to get this team to the playoffs. I'm not saying Faulk doesn't deserve it but we have so much money tied up in the Staal's, Semin, Skinner, Faulk, and Ward and yet here we are in 11th place or so.

I know you already know this, but lets face it. We have a goalie who looks like he is primed and ready to be  top 10 at his position for years to come. The roster is LOADED just loaded with young talent. What does that tell me? It's a coaching problem. Get a coach who is proven and knows how to develop young talent and we will be killer next season.

Faulk sucked ass this season and we extend him lol. fug JR.

Obv we should have just let him go he isn't ever going to get better ever

There aren't too many 27-28 year old defensemen in the league that you watch and say "Man I wish he was as good as he was at 21".  He's gonna have his rough spots but its almost a certainty he's going to get better.

You don't give a player that just had a terrible season a 6 year fuging extension. He's got to at least prove he can improve first before you give him an over half a decade extension.

You are just about the only person that would call his season terrible

I still maintain it's a coaching issue above all else. I think every player has their up and down years, and I think Faulk has proven that when he's good, he's really good.

I want to win, but I think it's asinine to think that it's the players' fault we're not winning. We have more talent now than we did in the 08-09 season, and that team made it (got swept, but we made it).

Get a coaching staff that can make adjustments on the fly and generate a better than below average special teams game, and we're fine, IMO.

    • Tell me something I don’t know. I said right there in what you quoted I wasn’t optimistic. I said I could still be hopeful. Which ain’t the same but will have to do.  I have optimism regarding more compartmentalization aspects of the team. Some players. The good draft we had is cause for optimism. Maybe that Tepper is actually being less harmful. Maybe.  I had some for Canales but his meter is about 50% right now with me.  Etc
    • Got a little more juice in us this period. Gotta get these chances to start falling. Ducks and us keep getting these chippies that are missing. First team to start banging these in and I think the floodgates open.
    • The things that make people give up on him is that he is getting worse in terms of simple football things and he isn't improving on much in terms of being a WR. He has improved his drops but then he has increased his insanely boneheaded penalties. I mean, the dude has THREE false start penalties. That is the second most on the team.  Couple that with his obvious limitations in terms of field vision, agility, etc and you just start to wonder what there really is to even believe in. I'll put it this way, when such a notoriously terrible personnel management coach like Canales gives up on you, that's saying a lot. He has ridden more bums for longer than any of us care to remember.
