I just want everyone to remember one thing from 2013...

If we can get a solid OL before the season, it won't matter if we have a #1 WR or not because we will run the ball all game long and use play action. As long as Shula is here we will be fairly conservative on offense. Don't be surprised as to how long we wait for a WR in the draft, there's lots of guys who can come in and contribute, I just hope we get big WRs for Cam to throw to.

With all due respect to Riverea who likely knows more then I'll ever know about football but that is a Kool Aid statement if I have ever heard one. Hindsight will be 20/20 but you do just replace catches. The Bills learned this with Peerless Price. He left and we had 3 guys snag down maybe 8 a game to make up for it. Those 8 just weren't the same. A good WR is just different.

Of course, hindsight is going to be a pain in the ass when LaFell goes for career yardage, 1,000+ yards, 20 TD's, and all that thanks to Marcia Brady.

I'm going to go run and duck under a table now. I don't think that the above will go over well.

I say he gets cut in the preseason.

I just don't see us running an offensive scheme that relies on big play wide receivers is all. Do your job and catch the ball. YAC is only important when you catch the ball, something when had trouble with at times last season.

We had a bipolar Offense last year. 1st 5 games we were predictable, sloggy, and just didn't have it together.

Then we had a stretch of about 8 games where we were on fire. Led the league in 80 yard drives. Completing 70% of our passes. Scored pretnear every time we touched the ball. And were particularly deadly in the RedZone.

Then we went back to ground and pound, and never got our groove back.

My point? When we were rolling we were still vertically chanllenged. But...we were aggressive with our 1st down plays. Throwing in quick passing plass, along with NOT JUST RUNNING IT UP THE GUT, and we were always ahead of the chains. We converted 75% of our 3rd downs. We were dangerous, and yet didn't throw deep all that much.

I want that aggressiveness back. Even with lesser WR talent, you should still be able to mix things up on 1st down. Keep the D off balance is not rocket salt. Hellz, if I can see the benefit? Nuf said, right?

I don't mind the conservative mindset. Especially with our Defense. I do however, see a need for more aggression in regards to our Offensive play calling.

Get back to mixing it up on 1st down, the pass is not necessarily a bad play.

I agree. Trust me, I am just as frustrated with Shula as much as the next person especially when it comes to his predictive play calls. I just hope we get the players that work in his system and not so much as to what the personnel should be. In the end our defense allows us to play rather conservative, we just need to be able to be more effective within Shula's offense.

    • We don't have to tear down Dak to appreciate what Bryce did yesterday. Dak had 0 running game. If the cowboys were better, he'd be a legit MVP candidate if he keeps playing this way.  They did it with Ceedee last year, but they do a better job of anybody we play consistently of getting their best receiver off Jaycee.  Bryce was good too. If we just catch the ball that was intercepted, we probably win by 7+, and Bryce goes over 200 yards passing.  Biggest shift the last few weeks has been play calling. I thought Canales abandoned the run game way to early at times last year. This year he really seems to be sticking with it.  I still think Chuba is better at making 4 yards when there's nothing there, but Rico is better at making 30 yards when there's 6 there. I like the direction. Hopefully we can get Moton, Sanders and Coker back and really be dangerous. Our play action game is pretty deadly right now.  Unrelated: My favorite quality about Bryce right now is his ability to see the defensive hold and throw the ball there. He EXPOSES the officials when they don't call it. That one on Tetaroia yesterday late in the game was a bad miss on their part.
    • That sacks allowed number lookin juicy!
    • This is a game the Panthers should win... just the sort of game they lose. The Panthers have a bad habit that goes back years of playing down to the competition's level only to mess around and lose the game. The Jets game should be taken very seriously! But I want to enjoy the fact that they beat the Cowboys for at least another day or so!
