John Clayton Weighs in on our talent at Receiver

Sensitive board, much?  Did he say anything that was not true?  Maybe he could have said things a little differently, polish up some really sweet and romantic words...  how about instead of

The Panthers elected to lose their top four wide receivers. Steve Smith is going on 35, but he's still good enough for around 70 catches.

he could have said

The Panthers chose to let their entire WR core of moderately skilled WR's leave and chose to release the aging but still effective Steve Smith.

Would panties be less in a wad then?

What he said was simply the truth.  The Panthers FO made a mistake by letting so many WR's be in a contract year and then cut off their nose to save their face when they released Steve Smith.

Don't be so sensitive - the offense is going to struggle in 2014.  Maybe not all year and maybe not terribly, but it will suffer and it will not be all because of the WR's.  And maybe I am a doomsday half empty glass kinda guy on the Panthers this year but if they finish in the top 2 of the NFCS I will be surprised.

I think he got sloppy seconds because I, too, made it to that same benefit dinner...  it was a drunken hazy night of debauchery.  You're not allowed to judge because it says so in the bible..

The wife and I catered that party. You all were some six fugs. And she was right in the middle of it. I can see why he married her.

......the wheelchair?

She'd fall out of her chair. Then grope the hellz out of you while you helped her back up into the chair. By the end of the night, folks were just walking over/around her. The wife and I wanted to help her, but some slick haired guy named Bernie told us it was "Best for all concerned" if we were to "Leave it where it lies". Or something really ominous like that.

    • Posted before in this thread, he broke his leg late in 2015 after being dominant in the slot that year too, pretty sure that injury prompted us to sign Finnegan out of retirement (who to his credit was great as a late season injury replacement off the street). Not that it would've made much of a difference in the SB anyways with our OL getting killed, but we got absolutely decimated by injury at CB late that year with Bene breaking his leg and I think Peanut Tillman tore his achilles or something in like week 16. That was rough.  But yeah Bene was truly a great slot corner, one of the best in the league, before that injury. Then in 2016 he came back out of shape and without the agility he had before and was just not good. Rivera inexplicably matched him against Julio without any adjustments that game and then we cut him. He had declined enough anyways but I hardly blame him for the Julio game. Dude was a slot corner who was already struggling that year, not someone you matchup against a guy who at the time was easily a top 3-5 WR in the league, if not the best...
    • Bene got scapegoated for that game. Literally. I think we cut him like a day or two after that game. He looked really good as a rookie but then had an injury that I can't recall exactly what it was and was just never the same after that.
