Bryce Young hasn't cleared 200 passing yards in a single game in that window. Meanwhile, Rico Dowdle has put together the greatest 5 game stretch of rushing production in Panthers history. And RBs have sort of been our thing, so there is ample competition. This team hasn't been lead by Bryce Young in that stretch. Those wins are simplistically 3 things. Schedule, Rico, and defense.

Hard to say but I think part of it is player development. But not every player will succeed in developing further in the NFL level. I think what may contribute to it, at least equally, is having the luxury to pick your guy. They didn't have to trade up and get Mahomes. They chose to based on the fact that they liked the prospect, the trade up cost, etc. It wasn't a forced move. It was a move they chose to make rationally and not based emotions.

2003 was a different time, man. And as mentioned before Jake was never expected to be a franchise QB, bryce was expected to be that and more. Funny enough, Jake's career passer rating is higher than Bryce's despite how favorable the league is to QBs now vs. when Jake played.

In all honesty, he should probably get that checked out. It might be (Arnold Schwarzenegger voice) "a tuuumaaa"

I've seen the comp a few times, and I feel there is a lot to it. Our situation is a lot like Kansas City was pre-Mahomes (without the HOF HC) Whether you like them or not, D&D are building something here. They had a strong draft. The team is slowly coming together, developing some identity, and has some decent blue chip parts. Brown, Horn, McMillan, and a good OL situation that we should keep fortifying every year. It's not much yet, but growing. Bryce is in that Alex Smith spot. A top draft pick, has never been overly impressive, but you can win games when he's safe with the ball. You're not winning because of him - maybe once in a blue moon. From time to time he's shown the ability to orchestrate some plays and lead drives. I just don't see anything that is like - "oh snap, yeah don't let him go, he's ours". He'll make a solid/good throw every now and again, but man, it is a struggle a lot of the time to watch. Some terrible performances to speak of, heck he's already been benched once during year 2. He should in no way preclude you from flirting with what else is out there. This is not a marriage. If you're in position (or trade range) for a guy you REALLY like come draft day, you shoot your shot. If we are in the draft process, and suddenly realize QB3-4 is a guy we really like, that's when you make a modest jump from like 16 to 11 or something like that. Just like the Bills did for Allen, like the Chiefs did for Mahomes. This is nothing magical that plants this franchise savior title on them, this is not some stupid trade-- it's an easy trade up to get a guy you like w/a big ceiling. It's all player dependent and coaching/development driven. If we don't like a QB, by all means fortify the front-7, get an awesome OLB or ILB prospect. But we're on year 3, you kind of know what you're getting at this point. Mostly sub-200 yard performances, low YPA, bad technique, poor mechanics, some decent stuff sprinkled in, but some bad turnover heavy ones that kill the team's momentum. Again, run with him if there's no complete disaster that happens the remainder of the season, but don't close the door on something better just because of the investment or debatable performances.

I don't really think they will functionally be better than Bryce. Especially in this offense. Baker's IAY/PA were 8.5 in 2023. Bryce is at 8.6 in 2024 and 6.5 in 2025. Dalton is at 6.7 in 2024 and 9.5 in 2025. So those numbers don't seem to indicate on the average that the targets are much deeper. I can take a look at 20+ passes/GM, if you want.

That was Frank the tank though. I don't know that DC wants to change his offense when another QB comes in. He probably needs an offseason. I think this thing is cooked up for what we have at QB and not what we want.

I would prefer to hear them say that he is playing at a pro bowl level, he's had so many INTs, etc. It's not necessarily a bad thing that they don't mention him but he was expected to have a breakout year and it seems like he is just having an average year.

I mean, you didn't contradict anything. I've said he is a bad QB. We went 4-3 with PJ Walker as the starter. The lone human that we have managed to win around in the Tepper era. Sure, he is a bad QB and turns the ball over.....but I already said he was a bad QB. His ceiling of good is higher than Bryce. That's true. Better tools and more threatening. There bads are comparable. Bryce just can settle in to a level of non-threatening and nothing play that PJ can't. He is more non-stop rollercoaster riding. But again, PJ is more fun to watch....with a higher ceiling. The fact is, if you are to accurately talk about the QB tier Bryce falls in.....the PJ Walker, Kyle Allen, types come into the convo. Which says all you need to say about Bryce.

Giants have been hit hard too. Starting RB and #1 receiver down in an overall weak WR corps and yet the rookie QB is still showing promise.

Doesn't have to be a long-term solution. Just had to be better than Bryce. I don't think we've really seen Canales' offense yet. This isn't what he ran in Tampa. I think Canales wants to threaten defenses vertically we just don't have a QB that can do it.

That's true. You could at least pretend that Trey Lance would have done well at the highest level of college football.

Lions, Chargers, etc. The injury bug is hitting hard. I will say that we seem to be weathering it better than most. Pretty surprising.

I think Richardson was the most egregious in recent memory. He was so clearly nowhere near an NFL caliber QB. I will never understand how anyone could be fooled by that guy.

His career 1.06 INT's a game would suggest otherwise. 5 dumb passes a game is very kind. TBH, it's probably closer to 15-20% of his overall passes are dumb or ill advised. It's just who he is. I still don't agree with this philosophy. The "I THROW BALL COACH! I DO GOOD!" QB's are just not what I view as a long term solution nor a winning strategy. I can understand the want to move on from whatever Bryce is doing, believe me, I am in complete agreement on that. I just don't view a potential increase in TO's to be worth the trouble. Also, I don't think this Canales offense is one that guys like Winston/Howell are really going to shine the best way that they can.

The potential payout is so high that no risk is too great when it comes to finding a dude at QB. That's why we're seeing day 3 and UDFA guys go Top 5. Trey Lance was the most egregious example.

Not sure how you can meaningfully downgrade from how bad Dalton is now. He won't be in the NFL next year unless Dan Morgan gives him a contract.

Yeah, I mean a decent chunk of those are actually still downgrades from Shell Of Dalton. If we draft a QB and then maybe sign one of those reclaimation projects....maaaaaybe it's not the worst idea. But those guys as a Bryce safety net are scary as hell.

32 out of 32 teams would take Stroud over Bryce. If Houston called us and offered Stroud for Bryce, we'd have Stroud a flight to Charlotte booked before the phone was hung up

It doesn’t really matter if Stroud or anyone from that class is any good. Geno Smith is the best out of the 2013 class, and I don’t think anyone’s doing cartwheels for that. What matters is what we have and what we do going forward
