I mean, he's a professional athlete. What you think as a fan vs what he should think as a player are completely different. Being bad doesn't mean you should lack confidence in yourself, and really that is true in all forms of life. Do everything you want to do with confidence. Justin Fields sucks, but does he ever play like someone who doesn't believe in his own abilities? Obviously you need more than confidence to be a high-level NFL player, and Bryce will never be that. But he could still create 2-3 extra plays a game if he allowed himself to play more "free" like he did in the second half of last season. The fact he refuses to use his legs to pick up yards nowadays hurts this team. Simple things like that would go a long way for us, even if not for him.

Why do people think Bryce Young won this game yesterday?
LinvilleGorge replied to RumHam's topic in Carolina Panthers
I've always thought it odd that the QB is the only guy in the roster who carries a record. If a RB puts up 1200 yards but the team sucks then everyone still says the RB had a good year. If a QB puts up good numbers put the D is atrocious and the win loss record isn't great due to that then the narrative is that the QB can't win. Now that we're finding a way to win with suddenly dominant D and dominate running game people are trying to shift to this "Bryce is just a winner" narrative while he puts up bottom of the league numbers while near the top of the league in turnovers. It's just funny to watch. -
You mean broken thumb and all ?

Most people here did enjoy the game and the win. But the day is Tuesday and we have PFF grades and the tape is out and has been looked at and we are on to the next week. This is a critical stretch for the franchise, he has 8 games basically to show he has more than we have seen. At the end of that awaits a crossroads. It is absolutely valid to have these discussions. IMO. -
I mean, he'd have to be delusional to still have a high degree of confidence in his abilities on an NFL field. When he tried to make a confident downfield throw this week it ended in a god awful throw that was easily picked. He can take shots downfield but they have to be the perfect opportunities. If the pocket is muddy at all he can't go downfield. Just don't even try.

If you are going to give qb's a stat that includes teams wins and losses you have to give him the W. -

I’m sure they know it. I’m also fairly certain Tepper told them he doesn’t give a poo. -
Maybe soon, in the game threads, we'll stop seeing "the Panthers suck and *insert name* is an ass" and delclaring the game over after the opposition scores during the first 5 minutes of the game.

If I had to make a guess I would say that the wind had more to do with throwing too much last Sunday. It cost both qb's with turnovers and Canales was smart enough and lucky enough to have a run game to lean on. Now in games prior to that I cannot say.

Yeah, I am not sure how the backup QB bar got moved to Bryce. It's very strange. -
The main issue is Bryce Young. Not the only issue, but certainly the one who has played the biggest role in our lack of a vertical pass game. What is frustrating is that while I don't think he will ever be an Allen or Mahomes in that department, obviously, he is more capable than what he's shown (which isn't saying a whole lot). But he refuses to play like someone who trusts themselves. While he is better than he was as a rookie, the best he's ever looked IMO was the second half of last year. And I would say it all the time in the GameDay Threads - he had a confidence to him, a freedom to his play-style, that was so clearly playing a role in his improved play. But this year he is back to playing so rigid. Case in point: how has he not eclipsed 10 rushing yards since Week 1? He averaged 26 rushing yards over his last 8 games last year. That might not seem like a lot, but it matters and it is reflective to how freely he was willing to play last year. It is even more obvious when you see it in person. He doesn't trust his instincts. No doubt there are physical limitations at play, but I think that is one thing he really lacks. Trust in himself.

I kept waiting for him to explode into a cloud of dust when he got hit.

They probably would have if DC had used his brain and been less worried about offending Chuba. Rico was ripping off runs at 8 yards a pop. Use him to wear that rested defense down, then use Dalton. But instead it was Chuba for 2 over and over. It wasn’t difficult to do, DC just refused to use some common sense.

At least with the Allen and Walker defenders there was some argument to be made that we were getting at least the expected level of play out of an afterthought of a player. I mean, the vibe around Bryce would be completely different if he was a UDFA or 7th rounder. I don't think anyone (well, okay maybe not anyone but at least very few) would be trying to delude themselves into believing he was the answer but a lot of people would be happy for the youngster holding it together and at least not just flat out losing us games. -
It goes against everything they've said about creating competition. They are always talking about trying to improve the roster so the qb position should be no different.
-
Now youre blaming the o line for having to game plan around a guy with a weak arm and no vision ?
-
Two weeks ago I looked and he was at 21 fumbled since 2023. Baker had the most at 23, but that’s with far more games and attempts obviously. fumbles per attempting Bryce by a mile.

Young’s limitations make it much harder to be competitive. those limitations strain every part of the team and coaching staff …all of it, the limited route tree, the ability to do a qb sneak in short yardage, what he sees or doesn’t see, his turnovers, his velocity, holding the ball too long. he is mobile in the pocket but many younger QBs are I wish him absolutely no ill, it is just what stats bear out. the panthers put themselves in this place. Young didn’t, they did and they have to figure out what to do about it Btw, anyone who thinks DC and DM do not know this are crazy. -

The pro Bryce guys remind me a lot of the Kyle Allen, PJ Walker or even Sam Darnold fans. They are watching the games, seeing the wins and ignoring the things making those players bad. All too frequently it was wins not because of them but in spite of them. "Being just good enough to not lose" all of a sudden becoming the bar. The eye test was always the same. These guys are a problem. The longer it went on, the more obvious it was. -
I mean, Dalton is incredibly washed up at this point. We did play differently with Dalton in the past. Dalton has just regressed to Bryce level as a passer except with 40 year old legs
-
They drafted a deep ball wide receiver in the first round. kinda answers that question.
-
Probably. I mean, when Bryce gets hit there's a decent chance he fumbles. He probably has the highest hit:fumble ratio in the league if someone tracks that metric.
-
If I remember it was Greg Cossell who said that before the Bills game insinuating they would play better with Dalton lol
-
But is he asked to abandon reads after 2.7 seconds and not wait for routes to develop due to protection and earlier concerns with fumbles?
-
"They're playing the way they have to play with Bryce Young at QB." Canales is adapting to the cards he's holding. This isn't the way he wants to play, it's the way he has to play right now.
