Need QB pressure and banking on a rookie pick to give it is risky risky business. Bring in Chubb, bolster it with another vet with some potential and draft a guy. That should be a pretty decent DE squad with Chubb and Scourton leading the way.

If his on the field QBing of the defense helped it be a great defense, sign me up. We'd all love another Luke but I'd settle for a lesser version. And if this kid has that type of football mind, what better mentor could you ask for than Luke Kuechly. Even if he's not that type of impact after the snap I'd just love to have that defensive QB again, especially one being mentored by Luke.

A friend of mine who follows SEC football says he thinks Allen was a just a good LB on a great defense but as you said if his interview process goes well and he is found to have the intangibles you mentioned then you get him day 1.

As a pure player, honestly I agree. But doubling as that QB of the defense on the field might push him over the top and make it worth it over say a Hill or Golday in the 2nd, especially if we don't think one of those guys will he there at #51 which I think is very possible.

My only gripe with Allen is I just don’t think he will be BPA #19. If Dan and co. do select him there I wouldn’t hate it but I will question if someone of Allen’s profile can be found in day 2.

I've been really warming up to Allen here of late. I'm usually not a big fan of off the ball LBs in the 1st but if we could get another impact LB who doubles as the QB of the defense... I mean that sounds very tempting.

Hopefully we stay away from Cashius Howell.

Interesting fun fact.

It does feel like positions like LB and S are where some athletic deficiencies can be masked by mental attributes like positioning, decision making, and instincts. Conversely you could be an athletic monster but have incredibly poor field skills and end up just being a strong, fast liability, ie just a track and field star.

We can disagree but I think he is one of the best players in this draft. Granted I probably saw every collegiate snap so I am a bit biased and granted he was playing with probably the 2 best players in this draft (downs, reece) but this kid is special, the way he moves is just smooth and he is a tackling machine.

Yeah, I've been saying for awhile it's more likely he ends up top 10 than available at 19. Unpopular opinion here though, but I think he carries one of the bigger bust risks in the 1st round. Love the athlete but I'm not sold on the football player.

I'm for addressing edge in FA. We just drafted two in the 2nd round and they usually take a couple years of development. I don't think another rookie would provide much immediate help and might stretch our development resources thin. I'd rather look for bandaid vets while we continue to focus on developing the young talent already on the roster.

Not sure he's a great fit for us schematically. Small for NT and lacks length for DE. Historically Evero has liked smaller quicker NTs but I hope he gets over that. Finding a smaller quicker guy who can hold up to consistent double teams is looking for a real unicorn.
