I assume the guys released now versus closer to Tuesday are bottom of the barrel on their respective teams. Guys who are borderline, but will eventually be cut, should be shopped until closer to the deadline.

Josina Anderson: Panthers NOT trading Adam Thielen
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield have the phsyical tools to overcome their deficiencies in other areas. Bryce Young does not. He was supposed to be mentally above his peers via his football IQ. That was supposed to his x factor that made himself stand out amongst other QB's and to overcome his average at best arm. Man I feel like you and some others here have a compulsion for making excuses for him. But you and others have fully flipped the script from before the draft. Nobody and I mean nobody who was heavily in favor of drafting Bryce Young was logging on here waxing poetic about how Bryce Young would need elite talent and elite coaching across the board to look like a top 20 QB. He was regarded as unequivocally the best QB in the draft and even the best player period in the draft. The revisionist history from some people here makes me laugh. It's certainly entertaining. -

So answer the question. Why did Chark and Hurst have the same metrics (go look them up, I did... and one was actually worse in LA) with Justin Herbert? Why did Mingo have the same metrics with Dak? You're right, there is a common denominator, just not the one you're trying to make. Why could DJ Moore get open with Bridgewater, Allen, Cam 2.0, Darnold, Baker, Williams, Bagent? I'll answer the question for you - because he is a good WR unlike Chark/Hurst/Mingo. -

I mean I just don't understand the argument. Baker and Sam both have been pro bowl QBs post their time here. And you just said yourself that is due to him having a damn good roster around him and they are well coached. You're even saying the bad baker is still there somewhere, but he is in a good organization with good roster and coaching that they are getting the best out of him. Why does Baker and Sam get all that benefit of the doubt but when it comes to Bryce it must be a BY9 problem, not an org or team problem? Hell I got a guy below you arguing with me that Chark/Hurst/Mingo sucked because Bryce wouldn't throw them open. It's ridiculous how far the stretch goes. -

Correct. It’s really hard to get open in the NFL when opposing defenses gameplan and cheat coverage/routes on all your players because they know your QB can’t make certain throws/plays. magically no one that comes to Carolina can get open or make plays with the ball in their hands…..it’s like there is one singular common dominator to it all. BY makes playing defense way too easy. NFL players are too good to allow one side to cheat coverage and not respect all the potential threats of a route so you can dial up a great play. But if corners and safeties just cheat coverage and know X and Y happening on route/threats….getting open gets hard when they just play it one way. Getting open has a lot to do with the different threats a WR can pose on a given play. -

Kinda depends how you look at it both were 3rd round draft pics. Nico was nothing before stroud and tank came in with stroud. If both were on the panthers would young have them doing well and starting or would their stats be low. I really dont know the answer to that. None of the panthers wrs have left and did well either but personally i feel neither of nico or tank would do much on the panthers. -

Except they literally weren’t getting separation. They actually track this. Why do you think none of our top weapons aside from AT are on a roster right now? How are all of these weapons he had to succeed looking now? Our roster was bottom of the barrel. I mean just the prior year Baker looked awful, gets let go and immediately looks better on a new team within one week. Then we trade away our only weapon in DJ Moore to make it worse. No one is asking you to be a “Bryce Believer” as I said he controls his own destiny at this point. Just stating that it was far from some ideal offensive setup for a rookie as advertised. It’s kind of crazy this is even a debate. Every analyst under the sun will tell you how bad it was. -
Falcons with Major Offensive Line Injuries to Start the Season

They have been fixated on flashy and splashy offense under Blank's ownership. It hasn't paid off, but they definitely have a type and style. -

They are just JAG role players. Chark was brought in to do a specific role and BY doesn’t even do that. Hurst is Hurst. BY just opted for his favorite TE which is AT. Frank Reich is NFL a boring middle of the pack NFL coach. He isn’t a bad coach. He just isn’t a good coach. Frank had a horrible year in Carolina because we are a poorly run pooshow at ownership/GM. Square pegs and round holes. Random parts. And he didn’t want a unicorn in BY that can’t make the throws a boring Frank O needs. -

He's stepped up his game but come on he and Mahomes are different conversations. And to further poke holes in that. Sam Darnold had more passing yards than Mahomes and Lamar Jackson last year. Doesn’t mean much does it? Respectfully some of you guys are so hard up to defend Bryce Young you'll even cape for rival QB's if it means returning to the same well of excuses for #9. Nowhere did I say Baker hasn't been successful with the Bucs. But they have a damn good roster around him and they are well coached. At the same time the Baker of yesteryear is still lingering below the surface and that version of Baker has shown up on a few occasions like I said. Whether or not he will be able to continue to sustain this like he has so far is the question. We'll see. -

What? Baker has had more success with the Bucs than the Browns. He has been statistically better than Mahomes since getting there -

Yeah, Dalton is a washed and aging QB collecting checks. He gets worse. Bryce on the year, wasn’t really that much better. we saw the base line for Dalton. We saw the bad Skins game. If he played more we would saw the law of averages good game or so added in for Dalton too. End of the day, BY doesn’t have the tools you want for a NFL QB. Simple as that. Everyone largely knows it. We all know the most likely ending because of it at this point IMO. I have or had way more patience for college kids. I don’t care to try to wish a nice kid into something good at the NFL level. -

So why couldn’t Chark or Hurst get open with Herbert? Why couldn’t Mingo get open with Dak? I don’t know why I’m even arguing with someone who doesn’t think Reich was a bad coach, I need to get out more. -

Darnold is still the same QB and has now officially bounced around the league. Baker Mayfield had much more success both in college and with the Browns albeit short lived there. Baker got a heaping portion of humble pie from that and his disaster of a time here. You don't see him hocking anymore cheesy t-shirts with his mug on them like he did here do you? And as much as he's turned things around we've still seen glimpses of the same old Baker. He was abysmal against us in Charlotte last year. Sooner or later he's going to hit another rough patch. -

Just let the rants go. Their minds were made up the night we drafted Bryce and they will do anything to be right. The fact we were a QB graveyard for guys who went on to be pro bowlers elsewhere much be a coincidence. Totally must just be Bryce. - Yesterday

Part of the reason no one wasn’t getting open is because of BY. That’s generally gets omitted. His part in the why. if you don’t have to respect different areas of the field and throws….you get to cheat coverage on plays and routes as a defense/defender. Getting open gets much harder. and I referenced it earlier, best offensive day of that season was the one game Young didn’t play and washed up Dalton took the field it’s always everyone else. Frank Reich tried all he could. But Frank is a generic NFL HC. And he is not a bad HC. BY doesn’t do the basics at a high enough level because of his tools….not just lack of experience. So if things aren’t great, it will go bad with BY. And if the table ever gets set for REALLY good….you likely won’t see that either with BY. only Bryce is going to change my opinion at this stage. Not his believers -

People seem to quickly forget how bad Baker and Darnold looked here before looking much better a year or two (for Sam) later. Easy train of thought is to simply blame the QB, but we have to keep building this roster back up if we want any QB to succeed here. -

And this year Bryce looked better than this year’s Dalton with a greater sample size. So again this just tells me Reich let his vet QB air it out against a depleted Seattle secondary. It was still far from a great offensive showdown by a QB that some on here wanted it to be. Again a lot of those posters are now claiming Dalton is washed. So from a one game offensive showing to washed one season later. Let’s you know how reactionary us fans are. I’m not overly concerned either way. Obviously I’m cheering for him to play well as it is what’s best for this team. I swear some rather be right than have this happen. However if he doesn’t we just draft another one. I’m not as attached to him currently as I was Cam. Probably the Auburn fan in me. -

What is the acceptable floor for a rookie QB with 6th & 7th string starting guards, a group of weapons where the only player getting open is 33yrs old, and the coaching staff switched the offense up three times in their first year?
