You know what's worse about the QB situation?
LinvilleGorge replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, he's a tough evaluation. He obviously has all the physical tools but is he an NFL QB? So much of the evaluation is going to come down to the interview process and that's the part of the process that we have no insight into beyond the rumor mill. For every Josh Allen there's probably a dozen Anthony Richardsons and you have to use that interview process to figure out who's who. Now Sellers is a better passer at this stage than either of those guys were, but you get what I'm saying -

I would hate to be getting the current product, is what I will say. Is he a dude or is he KJ Jefferson? -

I'm on the fence about Sellers. I wish SCar had a better OL to give him more of a chance but I don't know. I'm not out on him but I'm definitely not sold either. I expect him to enter the draft next year because someone will take a chance on his talent in the 1st but I'd honestly prefer he play another year of college and hit the portal and find a better situation. Or for SCar to hit the portal and build an OL. -

I don't think there is a set rule about when to start a young QB. Some are ready early, some need some time to learn and some just never get there. I keep beating this horse to death but I firmly am in the camp that it isn't how we are or aren't developing anyone, it's that we don't have any fuging clue how to pick guys that CAN develop in the first place. -

Mac Jones is piling up evidence of both Shanahan making QB's look better than they actually are and also that Purdy contract was probably ultimately unnecessary. -

I think we need to stop worrying so much about finding another immediate starter. Whoever we draft we need to do this the right way. 1st year, clipboard unless an injury dictates otherwise. We've seen time and time again how much better these guys do just having a year to get acclimated to the NFL game and climate. My thought for next year. Find a FA QB to run DC'S system because I think you have to give him year 3 for any possible future hires to even remotely consider Carolina. Then if DC shows serious improvement as a HC, let him draft a QB that meets his criteria, use the bridge while his carries the clipboard, and in the meantime, spend some capitol on defense, and get rolling. If DC doesnt work in year 3, show him and Morgan the door, clean the whole damn house out of rats, and build this place the right way from the top, starting by locking Dave and Nicole in a luxury resort in Luxembourg, the French Riviera, or in some Buddhist monastery. Just keep them away from daily operations and leave me the checkbook. -

More like the miming responses to questions when he was being asked about Gabriel starting. It's funny but it's also a little childish and immature. Just be bland and generic in those "gotcha" attempts. Don't make it more of a thing because they are actively trying to make it a thing. He has been a sideshow due to his actions(draft party, pre-draft team interviews, etc) but the media WANTS this to be a distraction so you have to be savvy enough to recognize this and avoid it. I was a huge Deion fan but Deion got to be Deion because of what he did on the field. Maybe chill on the public interactions like that until you make the name. Then be as much your true self as you want to be. Until that happens, it just opens you up for a ton of criticism. Rightly or wrongly, it's just part of the game. -

I mean....Bryce has to be a 4.8 40 at best. His mobility is pretty limited FOR a guy of his size, TBH. Russell and Kyler were 4.5-4.6 guys. I also question his field reading abilities. I don't think you accidentally end up with a 60% career completion percentage with an extremely low YPA average. Bryce ain't completely the problem but he is far from NOT being the issue either. -

I think highly reguarded QBs or prospects in general who fall for character concerns or even maybe injury worrys at a certain point are like value bargain bin sales.. to many examples.. Tunsil and his bong thing.. all pro.. Tavondre sweat the Texas defensive tackle who was a brick wall fell to the second round and his been a stud.. Payton wilson for the love of God we to Wallace over him.. and watching potential top 6 pick will johnson who was projected to us at certain points fall to the second round and we just said ihey rather have nic scorton (made we would have had to give up what a 5 or worse to move up 2-3 spots) is criminal. -

Well for me, that's the worst thing. We had an opportunity to bring in Daniel Jones or a Mac Jones (for example), and we didn't even do it. We probably would've fúcked it up, but still. Fitterer is gone. Ron is gone. We need to get to a point where "competition" is more than rhetoric. We need to stop giving vets undue preferential treatment, stop draft position bias, and just play the better players. -

He might carve out a long career as a backup but not as a top backup. I would bet a lot of money you'll never see Bryce have a game like Mac Jones had on Thursday night. Plenty of guys carve out long careers by being decent enough while being great teammates. I think that's the path Bryce is staring down. -
I mean until Thursday when we show the Devils who their daddy is.

I mean, he really hasn't done all that much to be a distraction. Has he been perfect? No. But he hasn't done much. Really. When I started researching it, I was expecting all this "stuff," but the worse thing that he has done, which is not directly related to football (so not really what we are talking about) is speeding. As far as football-related antics, there's not a whole lot there since he's become a pro. A lot of it is just speculation (like Rex Ryan's recent criticism) that may be based upon something or nothing at all. -

Now this I can argue against.. if we talking backup I think Bryce will have a nice long NFL career... He doesn't make a ton of bad reads.. he is mobile.. I think he can not lose you games if you have the table set for him.. but the ability to make those around him better elevate a bad offense mask bad players like say cam going to the super bowl with Bryon bell and philly brown.. no doesn't have that. -

I liked Sanders field reading abilities in general but his ceiling is fairly low and his shenanigans as a pro are, quite frankly, bizarre. I don't think he is doing himself any favors by being a distraction while also being buried on the depth chart. Don't get me wrong, the media would attempt to make him a distraction regardless but it's not smart to feed into it when you aren't having a role at all. This can also be said of XL, BTW. We are no stranger to this. It's a lot easier to excuse Cam dressing like a deleted scene Harry Potter character at press conferences when he is looking like a man among boys on the football field. -

I hear Huddlers throwing things similar about Sanders whenever his name comes up, but to put it bluntly, we don't know that to be true. What we do know is that plenty of Browns fans thought that Sanders had the best camp out of the bunch, notwithstanding not being given the opportunity to play with the ones. What has been reported is that Dillon Gabriel is Stefanski's guy, and Andrew Berry thought that Sanders should be prioritized (even if it meant that he would eventually trade Sanders due to Sanders having more value). The fact that many Browns fans preferred (and prefer now) Sanders, and that there was a split---or difference of opinion between Stefanski and Berry, isn't really up for debate. It's true. What this all means, at the end of the day, is that we don't know how Sanders compares to Hooker or anyone else because he really hasn't had an opportunity to play for whatever reasons.
