  1. Past hour
  2. A few reasons, first being that's the length of rookie contracts (not counting the 5th year option for 1st roudners). Also trying to go 5+ years out feels long and 3 or less feels too short for there to be all too much of a change. And you still seem to be arguing for this as if it's the only way to get a WR in that mold and that we don't have bigger problems than WR right now. Just because we need one thing, doesn't mean bigger needs should be ignored to fill that one, especially when that position already has one of our best players on the team. Again, yes, we need that type of WR, but we have other bigger and more pressing needs. It's also wildly unfair to say we have 1 WR right now, I think Coker has shown enough to be considered a solid WR moving forward with how he finished the season.
  3. That can be said of any position. Ok, we can add a good Z WR later than the first round. WR is very deep this year. Other positions like DL and OT not so much.
  4. Why four years? The fact is is that we only have one legit WR right now. One! The rest are a hurt UDFA and a room full of JAGs. Moreover not one TE even has to be in the league in four years, and certainly not anything but "guys." If Icky can come back anything around confidently and we can keep at least a couple more, then we at least have more than just guys across the line. I will never agree with the suggestion that we can just get a fast shifty receiver anywhere. That's not that high of a bar. We need a play maker. Scouting goes all ways. If you scout well, you can find a gem or two at any position in theory. We have done it for the OL before.
  5. It may not be exact science and this FO is relatively new, but it is very much likely the first couple picks will be of players we met.
  6. The only other position group I could think of is ILB since Dan was there for Rodriguez and Hill Jr. pro days in Texas. It’s one of the reasons I get the feeling ILB could be the pick at 19.
  7. Nobody is saying we don't need it, just that we have bigger needs elsewhere, and that type of WR is actually something that is often found in the mid rounds, you just have to scout and evaluate properly. Here's another way of looking at why WR in the 1st shouldn't even be considered an option. Looking only at players currently on the team, what position group would you feel strongest about 4 years from now? I'm not sure there is a better answer there than WR, as you have to think T-Mac is our best player on the team in 4 years (Brown is the only current player I think there is even an argument to be made over T-Mac there), with Coker not far behind. Our OL is too old to be considered, my opinions on Bryce is well known, Hubbard will be done by then and the rest of the RB is an unknown, Off-ball LB is maybe our biggest need, we only have 1 legit safety, it's certainly not TE, and our 2nd best CB right now will be 33 by then. Brown should still be a beast as he'll only be 31, but nobody else on the DL projects to be that good in 4 years. Edge rusher with Phillips, Scourton, and Princely is probably the only other possible answer than WR. So yes, that fast/shifty type of WR is 100% a need of ours, but we have so many other bigger needs both in the immediate and future, that to me, taking a WR in the 1st for the 3rd year in a row and having hit on another WR in the same time frame, just makes zero sense both currently and looking into the future.

  9. Laughing at Slayton (Mooney or Calvin Austin III), but telling me that Coker is the next best thing since sliced bread...You laughing at Theo Johnson in reference to our guys too? LOL No one in their right mind thinks Nabers is anything but a stud (definitely top 10 if not 5 potential). You do realize that Thomas was in a new system with a furst-time coach last year (with a questionable QB to boot)? And yet still, it's possible that he eclipses even T-mac (not saying that he will). They didn't even mention Travis Hunter. In any event, we're not in the top half. Draft another legit receiver, and we will be.

  11. Yeah that dude hasn't watched many games. Hornets been blowing teams out. Not just squeaking by and barely winning games. NBA fans are watching Hornets games because they are one of the most fun teams to watch (and Eric Collins) and I just don't remember other fans of NFL teams saying "yeah Panthers are super fun to watch I'm tuning in". Fans of other teams do NOT want to play the Hornets in a series. I sure don't remember anyone being scared of the Panthers.
  12. I mean, in theory Bryce could get over the hump. That aside, you have to know that due to the situation we are going to give him another year. From some perspectives, it just makes sense. I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with it, but it's not like the draft is chock full of franchise QBs. I'm thinking that only one, the consensus top pick, is destined to be the only one in this draft (and some people don't believe in him). All we can do is sure up the room with an FA (Pickett) and take a swing or two and hope (maybe the dawg Pavia). 2027 should bring better options if it comes to that.
  13. Let's be honest here. We have one WR on this team that would be in the top 3 of ANY other team. And he was a rookie last year. I love Coker but he is an often injured UDFA. He wouldn't have even gotten a chance on other teams. The rookie injury would have bounced him around the league for the next 5 years until he stopped trying to make a roster. It's a numbers game for most teams and he would have (at best) been on some team's practice squad. But Carolina has been so devoid of talent at the position, that we didn't have much of a choice. Bryce leaves a lot of questions but to say he hasn't elevated anyone isn't true. No WR has left Carolina since he's started and did better on another team. Not one. And there are several to choose from. Coincidence? Maybe. Probably not.

  15. If Dan does, I'm gonna be highly suspicious that he's actually Matt Millen in a Scooby Doo-like disguise.
  16. well said Give me a starting high rated starting safety every day of the week over a dude like KC
  17. Certainly it's about value. But it's also going to end up being a situation of in our draft slot there is surely going to be a few really solid prospects and maybe even a great one that might slip through if teams go on a run on one or two specific positions. And if we don't go BPA in that instance especially if it's a highly touted defensive prospect and we elect to throw another dart at receiver because we gave up a haul to draft the smallest starting QB in the NFL we would deserve to be ridiculed.
  18. Thomas Jr didnt even have 50 catches last year, washington had 58. Best in league my ass. Nabors is coming off injury and LOL if you think Slayton is any good its comical how you are downplaying how good Tmac is and the potential of Coker
  19. How in the world do you think that the Jags are worse than us when they have one of the better receiving corps in the league? They certainly are NOT debatable, and neither are the Giants or the Bills or even really the Chiefs.
  20. Its something like the 5/6th best wr 2/3 best safety 2/3 best linebacker 3/4 best dtackle 3/4 Corner 1/2 TE Which holds more value at 19, which has the better shot of not being a bust?
  21. Teams we are better than in regards to the wr room without a doubt and there are other teams you could easily debate Ravens Pats bills miami pats jets ravens browns jags (debatable for sure) titans Chiefs Raiders Giants (debatable) Saints Skins
  22. At the end of the day the Panthers are gonna be the Panthers. All I can say for sure is I damn sure hope they pick the right one. When you've got the 8th pick and select the consensus best receiver of the class and a huge need like we did last year with TMac that's one thing. This is not that. At pick 19 there's a lot of room for the Panthers to overthink this as they have in the past. And so far this regime has one solid draft and one pretty ugly draft under their belts. We'll see.
  23. I still don't know what list that you're talking about. I'm talking about rankings today, as presently constituted. Let's try this: argue, with a straight face, that our options are better than any team's on this list. Houston 49ers Broncos Jags Seahawks Eagles Lions Bengals Cowboys Rams https://www.si.com/nfl/ranking-10-best-wide-receiver-groups-nfl#:~:text=The first season with the, second year in the league. Now, I'd argue that these teams options are better. Packers Chiefs Bears Cardinals Buccaneers Minnesota Bills New York Giants Colts Chargers And these lists aren't even really predicated upon actual production in 2025.
  24. They also got Horn and a few more udfa's last year. Last years draft so far is the only draft in years that may be worth a damn. They have to hit on 3 players this year to change their trajectory going forward. Anything short of 10 wins should require changes on the sidelines and on the field.
