I wouldn't go that far. I think the defense should get the lion's share. But in their defense there were some very questionable calls that extended drives. But giving up those 3rd and longs were back breakers. Bryce isn't asked to carry the team. He's asked to make his 4 or 5 big plays, usually towards the end of games. That's how you win with this version of Bryce. I think he made more than that yesterday. I thought he did a good job of manipulating the pocket and escaping when he had to. He just didn't get the help he needed to win the game. I'm not saying that's always the case. But it was yesterday. I think. I plan to watch the All-22 today. The eye in the sky don't lie.

Yeah, I just know it's not gonna happen. The NFL wants to maximize QB protection because owners want to protect the most expensive position on their teams. The last thing you want to see as an owner is that $60M/year player leaving the field on a cart.

Agree, so a rule needs to be adjusted to be specific in the act of a slide. If the QB does some unorthodox flop and not an actual slide, it should not be protected. Then they need to constitute the process of a slide and when is begins, also if the QB is late attempting it--therefore not afforded the protection. Let's say the slide begins the moment the QB leaves both feet as a runner. Also, one yard and closer to the tackler is too late to attempt a slide, at that point you are a ball carrier and forfeit your QB protection. Does this sound fair?

Those refs were flag happy as hell. 20 total penalties for 181 yards is just crazy. 11 on us for 103 and 9 on them for 78.

The play call had potential to be great had the pitch to Dowdle been the call. We had run Chuba on that play already, why not pitch it out to Dowdle and let him make the corner miss for probably a 15+ yard gain at minimum.

Chase Young bull rushes Ickey almost straight into Bryce in 2 seconds, who is looking right trying to push the ball downfield. He goes down. And we are all here seriously talking about how Ickey did his job and Bryce didn’t

Ransom has a personal foul moving the game winning TD from a 62 yard attempt to a 46 yard attempt. Juat way too many penalties at terrible times.

I am not talking defensive penalties. I am talking penalties. I am just pointing out that for whatever reason we do tend to be more penalized in our wins than our losses this year. It's not like an outlier thing.

This is why it's important not to cherry pick when looking at stats. The wider net you cast the more likely you are to get the best idea of the overall situation. You can tell any story you want to tell if you cherry pick hard enough.

People who don’t know football think this o-line is good at pass protection. Any other QB yesterday gets sacked 4 times minimum, Bryce is a small slippery sob with a lightning release. You noticed every time Canales calls a shot play or a seven step drop back Bryce is getting smoked. Canales is doing his best to hide this line flaws, we only call shot plays when it’s one on one and Bryce throws with anticipation, outside of that we are straight up playing for 3rd and short. There’s a reason we have to overpay for guys like Damien Lewis and Hunt both those guys are considered average lineman by most team standards. Chase Young had a field day yesterday, but he just couldn’t get to Bryce fast enough

The owner is the one aspect we just can't gameplan for. I think he shut down all the snitches in the building so I would imagine his direct meddling is less known than before. I don't for a single minute think he has changed very much, if any. If he keeps meddling or is still actively involved in day to day football operations, we will always be doomed.

Not sure what you are trying to say. Against the Rams, the defense had 1 penalty for 5 yards resulting in 1 first down all game. Against the Falcons, the defenseive penalties came to 24 yards and 2 first downs.

Bryce and Evero are close. I can't see how one can logically pin anything on Canales when he inherited the two weakest links on the team, which are the aforementioned Bryce Young and Ejiro Evero. I'd argue that with how utterly pathetic Bryce Young and the run defense are, Canales has dramatically overperformed. It's damn near a mockery of the sport that this team is in the playoff hunt.

The rule really is quite insane when you think about it. The NFL is so hyper-regulated in every way now. It's not fair to expect human beings to make these calls. You can blame the refs but really, I blame the NFL. Protect them in the pocket and other than that you should expect to get your head knocked off.

I think it's intentional. These late half ass slides are all about trying to bait a flag out of the ref's pocket and make defenders second guess whether you're still running or giving yourself up. It's all about trying to get that extra 15.

For me, it boils down to who has issues that are more limitations/restrictive than surmountable/correctable. And with that said, it is Bryce. It doesn’t discount he’s been good a few times this year, relative to what we’ve seen. But there’s certain things he can’t change, and it limits what the offense can do. And the impact is just way too much for my liking. Sure, I’d love to bring in Jesse Minter and find a McDonald/SEA approach, but Canales doesn’t seem entirely unflinching in his ways. He seems open enough to adjustments. Evero, I don’t dislike him to the extent that I see but get the frustration. A big problem is still our personnel and some of his playcalling, but we’ve seen much worse. (Trgovac). My philosophy is not who shows me the most at their best, but who shows me the most at the worst. And Bryce’s worst has been indescribably bad with so little flashes; for as nice as it would be to see a redemption arc out of bust status.

I would have to buy that Tepper would throw out a HC and Bryce too, via telling the new hire to get his guy. I don’t think I buy that enough to roll with Bryce being gone on faith. There is one chance to get rid of Bryce I will not pass on it.

I agree they should put more tight parameters around it. I mean if you got 3 or 4 criteria of what constitutes a catch, they could do the same with QB slides. My point is the average QB sucks at sliding. In modern football where mobility is damn near as important as arm talent, sliding should be taught. I coached youth soccer of various ages and if a 6 or 7 year old can be taught in a few practices how to properly execute a slide, surely a NFL QB can be.

I think you have to tweak the rules to be less judgement based. I have no issue with outlawing the "diving" tackles to the upper chest/head area of a QB in a slide but basing it on when the player actually got down versus when they actually launched themselves. The defenders also have to realize that the QB doesn't get credit for the "sliding" yardage so there is little benefit to launching into them. Just form tackle them and they will go down.

I know the they'll never do it but honestly I'd just get rid of the slide. If you're a runner, run. Don't wanna get hit, don't run. We'll protect you as a QB in the pocket but once you scramble outside of that pocket you're just another runner and that's how we're gonna treat you.
