"Give" is a fun word. The players should earn it. Many don't. Jamarcus Russell comes to mind. Deshaun Watson comes to mind. Now Jaire Alexander comes to mind.

You're lacking in logic here. As a fan, with the way the cap is constructed, you shouldn't want fully guaranteed contracts. What Kevin Stefanski has been able to do with an essential handicap of $50+ million annually on what they can spend is nothing short of a miracle.

He threw 28 touchdowns last year in his first season back from a torn Achilles at 41 years old. I will give him the benefit of the doubt until this season is over. The AFC North is a horrible division to go to if you’re just trying to get to the playoffs to make some magic happen, though. He could have his usual 45 touchdown and 4 interception year and they may still end up 9-8.

Bryce’s new look. He looks like a grown up
CPcavedweller replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
If he plays like he did at Atlanta then yes, most definitely. -
Go on…

Well, the Niners just doomed themselves to mediocrity

He’s been Top 8 in most important statistical categories since he came into the league. id take that form of mediocrity all day. -
Panthers decision to pass on Walker
CPcavedweller replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
We didn’t need T-Mac when we have Legette though. We needed a guy like Golden to learn behind Theilen for a year and become the premier route runner in the NFL with world class speed. But hey…I wasn’t in the room. -
He was an App State commit, then got a PWO from Clemson and worked his way up to National Championship hero and eventual NFL Pro Bowler. People here can try to discount him all that they want but he is a receiver, and doesn’t look like traditional receivers, and managed to climb as high as he did, and all of that while having the most average measurables you can have.

I mean, he’s said we’ve done bad for a while now and has been right… So your theory isn’t correct.

McMillan can’t get open. Bryce’s favorite target is a pure route runner who creates separation and we continue to take the opposite of that. 50/50 ball ability is great, but only when you combine it with the ability to run the rest of the route tree. Rule 1 for receivers is beating press coverage and McMillan cannot do that.

Panthers reach deal with Muhsin 'Moose' Muhammad III
CPcavedweller replied to chknwing's topic in Carolina Panthers
You do? Had we taken Golden, I might agree. Having him work with Theilen would have been ideal. It all seems very disjointed and stiff to me. -

Tunnel vision? Theilen is the only guy who consistently runs his routes correctly. What do you want Bryce to do? I guess Jefferson and Adam’s should be traded too, because, you know, tunnel vision is bad. -
Round 6, Pick 32 (#208) - Jimmy Horn Jr, WR, Colorado
CPcavedweller replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
He’s big, but I watched his highlights and I’ve looked at his measurables. Compared to Warren or Loveland he is average. He is stiff with good hands and lacks the physicality you’d expect at his size. He has soft hands and decent short area quickness but, again, his stiffness will negate the usefulness of that. Sanders is a much better prospect all around and Tremble is as good of a receiver. Mitchell may turn out to be okay but I think that’s about as good as he will be, okay. -
Round 6, Pick 32 (#208) - Jimmy Horn Jr, WR, Colorado
CPcavedweller replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Like Mitchell, I feel like we waited too long to address these positions. Horn has ideal traits for that slot guy but his production, particularly on an offense like Colorado had, is worrisome. Mitchell is stiff and seems to sort of be your prototypical average tight end build. He gets taken down easy by dudes much smaller and if he were a gazelle, he would never survive past being a fawn. Anyway, this draft seems as disjointed and out of sync as in years past. I see the plan, but the guys we picked up just don’t make sense. -
I mean, Tet is a quality player. However nearly everyone in the NFL is a quality player. It’s about fit. I don’t understand the fit because I don’t understand what we are trying to do on offense. I honestly think a good comparison for him is going to be DJ Chark. Chark had some amazing catches for us, and decent games. However he wasn’t good enough to retain. I just don’t see how either Legette or Tet can be a first option with their limited route tree. I think we need to go grab a guy like Restrepo in the 4th if he’s there. He’s already one of the cleanest route runners in this draft and his game is very similar to Theilen. Taking him and giving him the opportunity to learn, like how the Patriots did with Welker and Edelnut, would be good. But the Panthers don’t think that far ahead.

Better than Golden? Better than Egbuka? Sure, at running go routes and wheel routes he may be. But Bryce’s favorite receiver is Theilen and that’s because Adam is a ballsy route runner with soft hands. The guy closest to him early was Golden. I still hold hope we draft Restrepo and Skattebo but I won’t hold my breath. The game has changed. We just got another guy who is big and can’t run crisp routes and that is my axe to grind. If we hadn’t drafted Legette last year, I’d be all for this. Doubling down on a failed philosophy is insane though.

REPORT: Panthers attempting to move up in the 2nd round
CPcavedweller replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
To move up to the top of the 2nd round we probably have to give up far more than that. And, if history is any indication, the pick will bust. So sure, trade away effectively 3 players for 1 when we suck at drafting in the 2nd round. -

Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8
CPcavedweller replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Which is interesting. Teams claimed to be worried about Shadeurs measurables and arm strength. Some reason, I find that to be a cop out considering where Bryce Young was drafted. Sanders may get a lot of attention off the field and have his own interests, but I like his game. His stats against pressure are wild. He has all the tools you need to succeed. The fact he played as well as he did despite Colorado’s leading rusher having as many yards in 13 games as Jeanty had in 1.25 games is very telling. Meanwhile, we are over taking another giant receiver who was hand timed at 4.5 40 and can’t get off of press coverage. -
Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8
CPcavedweller replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Right. You want a quick hitting offense to receivers who can get open. The personnel around Bryce would be much better suited to a power run game and deep play action which would, unironically, be better suited to a guy like Sam Darnold. Unless we draft another Theilen like guy later on, I truly don’t get it. I still want Skattebo though. Have a feeling I won’t get that wish either. -
Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8
CPcavedweller replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Because their wide receiver compliment each other. Legette and Tet do the same things well which is run go routes. Neither excel in their route running, neither excel in getting off of press, and neither can get open against man over the middle of the field. Golden is a guy who could create 4 yards of separation off of press on any route because of his short area quickness. If you paired him with Legette and Theilen/Coker, I’d get it. Pairing three stiff receiving options with one fluid guy in Theilen just doesn’t make sense to me, at all. -
Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8
CPcavedweller replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I can’t even watch the CFC or whatever it’s called because of the horrible AppleTV deal MLS has. Play Regardless, none of this makes sense to me. In my opinion, this is an indication they believe Legette was a wasted pick, already. We have two guys who serve the same purpose, an aging Theilen, and a guy who would kill it as a 3rd option behind a guy like Golden and Theilen.
