Sax's Panthers Plan (or reality?): Trey Lance | QB | NDSU
top dawg replied to saX man's topic in Carolina Panthers
The other stuff was basically nothing, and certainly not enough for Simms to discount Lance (which we know he hasn't done). My thing has always been, if you think one of these guys is your guy, you get him regardless! That includes Lance! He has all the elite traits, and once he puts them together, it's hard to see him failing in the NFL. -
Trey Lance - best QB of this draft not named Lawrence

The numbers on that extension matter not! He's arguably valuable enough to them to keep around, even at the cost of $12 mil. -

Whatever! The ONLY real reason that Simms is critical of Lance is Lance's lack of throws! Lance doesn't have the number of throws to justify a first round pick in Simms' mind. He doesn't really knock Lance's physical prowess or his decision-making! I've said ALL along that all Lance needs us more experience. If you think he's going to melt away under the pressure and won't rise to the occasion--basically bust--then say so! Don't hide behind Simms or anyone else! -

Steve Young was great! Jim Mcmahon was good. Wentz and Hill aren't in the same stratosphere! -
Exactly! I don't know what some people are thinking! Did Fitterer and Rhule (and even Tepper) become stupid with their value-cost analyses all of a sudden? Hell, they passed on the 49ers-Dolphins shenanigans, and also the Rams-Lions'!

It's no secret that some of his balls are inaccurate. But being a little behind here or there and sailing the ball over the receivers heads are two totally different things. I mean, the guy completed 67% of his passes. That's right in there with the rest of them save for Fields who is really outstanding. Pristine ball placement is great, but it's far from the only hallmark of a great QB. -

Your opinion is not any more valid than mine, though I will say that more analysts seem to agree with mine. -
Because they need all the picks they can get, and really have no need for Minshew, as they signed C.J. Beathard to realistically be the backup.

"Struggle" is such a loaded and inaccurate word. -
I just mentioned in the Wofford thread, that Minshew would be a legitimate option to unseat Teddy in a competition to lead the team, but it's far from a guarantee! Still, I'd give up a fourth for Minshew just to have some flexibility and hope. He may just provide the best value considering other options, and this isn't the first time I've discussed him as perhaps our best practical possibility!
-
People keep saying that we can't roll with Teddy, but that's easy. When you start looking at the real world practicality of it, then you realize that the likes of a Wofford or even a Minshew aren't guaranteed to beat Teddy out in a competition to lead the team. I'd think Minshew would have a realistic chance to do it, but I wouldn't bet on Wofford...at all, or some other guys that have been mentioned.
-
I wouldn't give higher than a third. He's damaged goods! Let someone else give a second and take on that risk!
-
If a 6th is a mid-round pick. Honestly, I'd rather have Minshew or Darnold for a mid-round pick if we could swing it. Not sure that we could for Darnold, but we should be able to get better value for Minshew. Wofford hasn't done enough to warrant a mid-rounder (or enough to really warrant consideration at all IMO).

I'll give them next year's second and this year's third! That's all they'd get!

Eric Fisher got abused by the Bucs in the first game! He wasn't the magic elixir that was going to help them win against that outstanding defense. Remmers didn't play well, but the Bucs made a lot of good tackles look pretty bad. -

I'm not going to go back and forth about Wilson and Lance. Lance's upside is greater, period! -

At some point, you have to decide on whether or not you trust Fitterer and Rhule! They know what it is that they're looking for, and if Lance (or any of them) is their guy they should go get him! They are the professionals! -

I find it just a tad hypocritical to say "I'd give up multiple firsts for Wilson, but not Lance." At the end of the day, they're all in the same boat, with lots to prove. -

The market is different, but it is what it is; Kansas City traded up 15 spots and gave another third and a first to move up for Mahomes! -
All draft picks are unproven in the NFL until they actually prove that they can play with the big boys.

You won't hear me crying about it. I started driving the train out the yard back in September! I didn't realize we'd have to aggressively go get him, but that's fine too! Let's go! -
I've been screaming "LT" for years, but I'm not gonna lie, Ja'Marr Chase and Kyle Pitts are screaming "Come hither", like sirens.

I would agree that he's the most talented thrower of all of them at the moment, but I still don't know if his talent level is higher than the others' overall. It will be interesting to see their careers unfold.
