  1. I mean, surely as a Panthers fan you've witnessed countless running plays up the gut into a wall of linemen for zero yards. "Both accelerating in a straight line directly at one another" is an incredibly hyperbolic interpretation of what I said lol. Not to mention, running backs getting gang-tackled with a ton of bodies around them often leaves them open to one of these 300-lb linemen (both o-line and d-line) getting pushed directly into their knee or ankle while their foot is planted. Your initial framing was pretty wacky...running backs running the complete opposite direction of linemen whereas the QB is getting tackled with zero momentum while their feet are planted in the ground? If anything, the QB is the one running in the opposite direction of the linemen as they trade to elude the pass rush. The way you framed it is really only particularly applicable for blindside hits where the QB has no idea the rusher is about to hit them (and what percentage of those account for a QB's total sacks taken, maybe 10%?). Otherwise, the QB can generally see that they're about to get sacked and will brace for the hit.
  2. I do want to shout out Nicole Tepper. Most of the time she’s mentioned on these boards, it’s some veiled misogyny scoffing at her inclusion in team affairs. But it was refreshing to see her excitement and giddiness in the draft room in contrast to the emotionless blank faces of Reich, D. Tepper, and Fitterer every time the camera switched until the pick was made (then high fives were being dished out all around). I’m not one of those people who hyper focuses on the body language and demeanor of draft rooms, but hey I simply like seeing people enthusiastic and happy…call me crazy.
  3. Sorry, is the RB the one running as fast as he can in the opposite direction of these 300 lb linemen in this scenario? Is he taking the handoff and then immediately running backwards out of his own end zone or something? These are the guys often running directly into the 300lb linemen.
  4. Maybe you forgot about the biggest leaguewide scandal in at least two decades that rocked the NFL to its core.....when Nicole Tepper forgot to do a mandatory compliance training. I mean, it generated 15-20 pages worth of scathing commentary on the Huddle about how dysfunctional of an organization Tepper is running.
  5. It's hard to keep up with because he's adjusted his rankings between the top 3 a couple times over the last several months. He has had all three of them as #1 at some point lol. Initial rankings (September 2022): 1. Stroud 2. Levis 3. Young Updated rankings (December 2022): 1. Levis 2. Young 3. Stroud Final rankings (April 2023): 1. Young 2. Levis 3. Stroud
  6. So were we less enthusiastic about Young because we took 5 minutes to turn our pick in? I’m not sure I understand this argument…everyone and their grandmas knew we were taking Young so the Texans had plenty of time before the draft to decide who they were taking and apparently decided on Stroud. Obviously the Texans were never going into the draft with the #2 overall pick with the intention of spending their 10 minutes still deliberating last second on who they’re taking. I think you’re reading too much into the optics of rushing to get their pick in lol.
  7. Bryce stores his weight in that giant beautiful brain of his.
  8. I don't know, ask the guy I quoted who was invoking Russell Wilson's injury history (or lack thereof) as a cautionary tale for Young. What I do know though, is that it sounds awfully cowardly to forego a better prospect (which is majority widespread belief, whether or not you would like to admit it) at the most important position in the NFL because he might get injured at some point. Having the 1st overall pick and settling for a lesser prospect is something I'm surprised people are advocating for, given how outspoken everyone is in here about a franchise "mired in mediocrity". There are two types of people in the world: Chad Riverboat Rons, and Virgin Calculated Risk Taker Rons. I'm proud to be Team Riverboat...you feel free to stay comfortable and complacent in the latter category.
  9. I mean, if you want to bring up the Russell Wilson comparison...are we saying we could get 9 full healthy seasons out of Bryce Young and have him miss 5 games total in his entire 11-season career? That sounds awesome, sign me up. That's a strange comparison to reference if you're trying to highlight injury concerns.
  10. Um actually....it clearly says there that it's the 2021 draft, so two years ago. (just teasing and being "pedantic" since someone called you that the other day lol)
  11. You've had such a weird character arc....you used to be the poster boy for the resident sunshine-pumping homer, who would rail against the whininess on these boards. You've always been pretty cringey but I at least respected you for staying hopeful and going against the grain when things were rough for the Panthers. Now you've rebranded from iamhubby to Gerry Green and became the very archetype of a whiny Huddler that you used to constantly argue with. The kicker is that you're having this philosophical existential crisis on the heels of the most exciting offseason for a Panthers fan in at least 5-6 years.
  12. Yeah it's funny how people learn new things and integrate it into their understanding of the world.
  13. I don't watch UNC football (despite being an alum), but statistically speaking, the last 4 games of the season were his worst 4 games by virtually every metric. He seemed to start off sizzling hot and then fell off towards the end of the season. Not sure if he was injured or he lost a bunch of receivers/o-line or what, but that's a bit of a discouraging trend to end the season. Bryce Young on the other hand, doesn't seem to have really had a statistically "bad" game dating back the last two seasons, other than perhaps the UGA championship game last year where he threw for 369 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs. Maye has had a very promising start to his career, but I still think he's TBD to see if he can play an entire season at a high level, whereas Young has proven that.
  14. If a team sits tight and waits for a supposed Franchise QB to hopefully drop to them, as opposed to trading up to get their guy, that doesn't inspire a lot of confidence about their belief in those prospects. If you think a guy is a franchise QB, you don't sit and wait and hope that he drops...you go get him.
  15. It's pretty obvious that these S2 guys want to be as diplomatic and inoffensive as possible. I think they're understandably getting a lot of scrutiny and limelight because their scores have a lot of newfound influence and they're speaking in about as vague of generalities as possible.
  16. I understand entertaining this hypothetical as a fan, but I think it'd be incredibly irresponsible for an actual NFL FO to forego their top choice at QB this year and trade down because "hey that Houston pick is probably going to be top 2 next year". The NFL is too much of a crapshoot. Going into the 2022 season, I think most people considered teams like the Lions, Seahawks, Jets, Giants, Commanders, and Jaguars to be bottom-feeders...but they all were either playoff teams or in the playoff run late in the season. On the other hand, teams like the Bucs, Rams, Packers, and Broncos were considered potential powerhouses going into the season and they all struggled significantly.
  17. If you're modeling the relationship between two variables (i.e. weight and injury risk, in this case), then it doesn't really matter if you're encountering a new data point that is the lowest on record (i.e. Bryce Young's size). Your model doesn't suddenly crash and burn and become invalidated. In the simplest terms, I'm sure once upon a time you've heard of the formula Y = mx + b. Y is your dependent variable (injury risk), m is your slope (basically how impactful weight is for injury risk), x is your independent variable (weight), and b is a constant. So if there is truly a statistically significant correlation between weight and injury risk, then even if Bryce Young was 40 pounds, you can still plug that into your model and determine the injury risk. It's very basic statistical analysis/linear regression. Also even if there was never a sub-200 pound QB in the history of the league, you can still determine if there's a correlation between size and injury risk. Do 200 pound QBs get more injured than 220 pound QBs, who get more injured than 240 pound QBs?
  18. I've noticed the "Bryce Young fans are intolerant" camp has been awfully quiet while their boy is in here going an absolute unhinged tirade.
  19. I don't even know about "smart" agents, it's just common sense IMO. Like I mentioned earlier, what prospect would go into the Combine having never attempted a 40-yard dash? So what's different about this test where these prospects are apparently going into this S2 never having taken it before, knowing full well it's part of the evaluation? Maybe S2 has never really been on these kids' radar for the most part, but it sure as hell is now.
  20. Yeah it's more just me trying to understand why people use that argument to diminish Young. "Oh of course he scored well, he's been taking it every year since High School!". Either it's really hard to improve your score, thus him taking it multiple times has a negligible impact...or taking the test repeatedly does have an impact on your score, thus all the other QBs are foolish for not putting in the effort to practice taking this exam leading up to the draft.
  21. There has been a lot of chatter about Bryce Young having taken this test every year since HS or w/e, but I'd have to imagine every one of these aspiring NFL QBs has taken this test multiple times before the official registered one, no? Why would you want your first time taking the test to be the official one that gets released to NFL teams? That'd be nuts. It would be akin to knowing you're running the 40 at the Combine and being like "whatever let's just see what happens, I don't need to try it beforehand". Is this exam something that's not accessible to most of these QBs? Like Bryce had some special "in" to be able to take it all these years ahead of time?
