Marquan Mccall needs more snaps.
MasterAwesome replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
FWIW, here are the PFF scores on defense for the season (I had to google them one at a time lol): Derrick Brown: 77.0 Bravvion Roy: 65.7 Matt Ioaniddis: 57.2 Marquan McCall: ? (not enough snaps to qualify) Yetur Gross-Matos: 53.2 Brian Burns: 59.8 Marquis Haynes: 64.8 Henry Anderson: 70.1 Phil Hoskins: 28.4 Shaq Thompson: 49.4 Frankie Luvu: 65.3 Damien Wilson: 46.5 Cory Littleton: 59.8 Xavier Woods: 76.7 Jeremy Chinn: 54.1 Myles Hartsfield: 77.3 CJ Henderson: 62.1 Jaycee Horn: 61.4 Donte Jackson: 64.4 Keith Taylor: 60.3 Based on PFF's grading scale below, looks like we have a bunch of back-up caliber players at best, aside from just Derrick Brown, Myles Hartsfield, Xavier Woods, and Henry Anderson who are all just serviceable starters. -
Panthers vs Lions energy level

The Lions' clip is literally every locker room after a win lol. I guarantee ours would look just like that if we could ever win a game.- 27 replies

Are we saying your Huddle posting activity is a measure of your Panthers' fandom? I remember poundaway getting called out by frank during the first half of Week 1 for being MIA while he was literally at the game lol. I'm one of those who "whines about negativity" (if we're being overly reductive) and I sure as hell don't want to jump on here during the peak of negativity during/after a loss lol. That's why I historically tend to stay away from Gameday threads. I don't think there is anything remotely contradictory about that; in fact, it's quite consistent. I mean, y'all always tell people like us to "just stay away from the boards if it's too negative for you" but then we still get ridiculed for doing just that lol. It's a lose-lose.

I could rationalize doing this on a handful of plays here and there to disguise different blitzes and confuse the offense, IF you have a formidable pass rush elsewhere on your d-line. But dropping your only proven pass rusher into coverage 15 times?? F that.

The highlight of the game for me was McCall's shirt riding up and seeing his big ole floppy belly hanging out. Then like 2 plays later, him busting through for a TFL on the RB. I'd love for him to bust out a Monty Mole celebration on his next big play (IYKYK). -
That seems to line up with my viewing of the game. I think someone nailed it in another thread - Baker needs to learn to step up in the pocket instead of bailing laterally any time pressure comes from the edge. That's something you would expect a rookie QB to struggle with, not a 5th year vet. And most of our pressure seems to come from simply being outnumbered, when they send 6-7 players on a blitz. That's when we need to get better at utilizing hot reads, which Baker did a couple times (to Ricci and Ian Thomas) but it needs to be more consistent. I'd put that on coaching. For the most part though, it seems like our o-line is doing well in one-on-one matchups. It really felt like when the Giants rushed 4-5, we had a relatively huge amount of time in the pocket compared to what I'm used to seeing from a Panthers o-line. But again, in clean pockets when there was no pressure, I would see Baker rushing and forcing passes instead of going through reads.

Every time I tune into the Huddle and read all the commotion about Justin “Franchise QB” Fields, I just KNOW I’m about to stumble upon another horrid stat line. And lo and behold, a combined 90 yards and 1 TD

Tackling is one of those things where there’s a textbook fundamentally sound way that is taught, but it’s almost a lost art. That’s why when someone does perform a textbook tackle, it’s usually praised and emphasized by announcers and coaches. Kuechly was one such player who was universally praised as being a technician when it came to tackling. Otherwise, lots of players still are operating on the fly, going for big hits, etc. Tackling seems like one of those things that’s so basic that it should be incredibly obvious to anyone who has played football. But just like everything else in football, there’s good technique and bad technique and bad technique often needs to be coached out of people. “Wrapping up” is one such technique that coaches repeatedly try to drill into their defensive players to learn how to properly tackle. -
This doesn’t really seem to align with that Athletic article from last year where Person supposedly interviewed like 20+ people associated with the Panthers’ organization. I know the Wilks stuff is new since he didn’t join til this year, but stuff about players being annoyed with Snow’s college defense and especially how Snow is really running the show and Rhule is his puppet? I’d think that would have been a focal point or at least even remotely hinted at. I don’t think anyone really talked about Snow much. If true though, this reflects really poorly on Tepper most of all IMO. This level of internal dysfunction and infighting sure as hell doesn’t go unnoticed by the owner, so he needs to step in and do something about it - axe Rhule and/or Snow if our star players are that disgruntled to the point where they don’t want to re-sign here. The part about Rhule bringing Snow to every meeting with Tepper and how Tepper has to ask Rhule to meet alone is some real cuck poo and I’d be embarrassed as an owner to see my coach (the guy I chose as the leader of my team) bringing Daddy Snow along to every one of my meetings.

What feels a bit less hopeless this season, is having an OC who can actually adjust to what the defense is doing. Last season we pretty much knew we were doomed if we were down at halftime due to the inevitable Joe Brady implosion in the 3rd quarter. Our 17-7 halftime deficit would've been 38-7 after 4 straight 3-and-outs lol. Now I feel like we at least have a chance to claw our way back from behind. Definitely need the D to step it up though. -

The one thing I do think was a fluke last week were all the missed tackles. I mean damn, 18 missed tackles is not something you expect to persist throughout the season. Otherwise, we'll end up with almost triple the number of missed tackles this season as we did last season. Hopefully they emphasized this in practice all week, something I think Snow did mention. -
Not sure if you're trolling, but there are so many people who respond like this so allow me to explain something. There are three groups of people on these boards: 1) People who genuinely like Rhule and inexplicably defend him despite him being an abject failure and dragging our team through the mud. 2) People who don't "hate" Rhule (wink wink) but get triggered by a months-old 5-second clip of Rhule doing a dumb goofy laugh. 3) People who dislike Rhule but think Group 2 people are a bit unhinged and cartoonish (ironically much like the person in your GIF), as we would prefer to keep criticisms substantive. There is currently no place on these boards for us in Group 3. Like damn, am I allowed to just dislike Rhule in a healthy and mentally stable manner? Or like I legit have to feel visceral nausea and hatred and break at least 9 chairs every time I hear his voice or see his face?

Also I love how a 2-month-old clip of Rhule laughing gets more engagement than a thread like this. Huddle gonna Huddle. -
Giants: The Previous Game is Under Review
MasterAwesome replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm hoping we can exploit a Burns/Neal matchup but @TheCasillas have you noticed whether we tend to move Burns around on the line? It felt like he mostly went against the LT last week but I wasn't really keyed in on him. -
Apparently J. Watson is also a common NFL name lol. Tonight is a great night for J. Watsons in KC.
-
I imagine tackling is something that's pretty difficult to evaluate in training camp when players aren't going all out, even during full contact. And to your #2 - Snow mentioned that they're working on fixing up the tackling in preparation for the Giants.
-
Let's hope we're the 2021 Packers who got blown out 38-3 by the Saints in Week 1 and proceeded to go 1st in the NFC with a 13-4 record
-
It was called because of referee incompetence. Avoid getting another flag like it by doing exactly what you did because it was a good, clean play. There you go. The thought of coaches wasting valuable practice time discussing how to avoid bad officiating is just about the most pointless endeavor I can imagine.
-
So you agree with me....? This feels like one of those times where you're arguing with me in principle but you're actually just restating my position.

If you're a fan of the film review + analysis space that these guys occupy, then you should probably check out @TheCasillas "Great offensive breakdown" thread where he does exactly that.

Unit Strength ESPN and PFF….oh boys it’s bad
MasterAwesome replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
And the Titans who allowed these 200+ yards rushing (most in the NFL Week 1) scored significantly higher on their run defense than the Giants did on their run offense lol. -
If we're talking about logic: bad calls on final drives get over emphasized because those are the calls we can say much more confidently that directly altered the outcome of the game. Nobody points to a missed Roughing The Passer call in the 2nd quarter as the reason a game is won/lost because 1) you often don't know whether that call will even amount to points, and 2) any bad calls early in the game can cause a ripple effect that changes how the rest of the game plays out. Maybe that missed Roughing The Passer penalty will set up a 3rd and long that will draw up a different play from the OC that will lead to a long TD, or maybe if that call was made, then instead of punting deep into enemy territory, your QB throws an INT that gets returned for a TD which is infinitely worse. Or maybe that call is made which leads to an offensive TD and then the opposing team alters their gameplan and becomes more aggressive which leads to more or less points than they would have gotten otherwise. Or maybe they call that RTP penalty but then on the next play, your team gets a 15-yard Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty that essentially makes it a wash. There are unlimited possibilities. That's why harping on a missed call early in the game doesn't happen very much because it's impossible to accurately measure its impact. But missing two huge calls on the final drive that would have been virtually impossible for the Browns to overcome to win? Yeah, that's a little more clear cut.

Why would the victors and beneficiaries of bad officiating be posting threads after a win about how we need better refs I guarantee you those threads existed on the Patriots' boards. And whether people choose to talk about something or not doesn't determine its validity. The Patriots should have won that game, that's a pretty clear and uncontroversial statement. What should also be an uncontroversial statement is saying that we got screwed out of a win by the refs while also acknowledging we played poorly and were poorly coached, which were bigger issues.
