Per Matt Miller.. Panthers all in on Richardson?
WUnderhill replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
What’s the point? Are you suggesting he can’t put on any more weight? Again, I get the concern and laid out my reasons why it has become less of a concern for me personally. Never said he could carry 250 or something. -

He can put on weight. I think he said at the podium he was around 200 right now. But yeah I get it, and that’s why I was not sold on him at first. But man, whatever “it” is, he has it. And again, I’m less worried after watching more of him, because he is just absolutely elite in the pocket and he has that spidey sense for blindside pressure. So while I am worried about the hits that he will inevitably take, I am more confident in his ability to take less hits than any of the other guys, and less BIG hits. He’s not gonna get buried by an edge off the blindside like some of the other guys because he’s going to sense the pressure and find space in the pocket to step up, and he’s very good about staying tight and compact and presenting a small and slippery target for pressure up the middle. Keep a good oline in front of him like Brees had his whole career and the kid will cook. -

I’m torn on Richardson. He’s a less athletic, less developed, less accurate Cam. And I loved Cam. I just worry about having a guy who falls back on his arm strength and athleticism again (and why wouldn’t he). I want a QB for the next 15 yrs not the next 5-10 until injuries start piling up. Also, he needs A LOT of development, which we seem to have the coaching staff for, but will he ever be an elite processor or have elite pocket presence like Young? I’m pretty confident the answer to the latter is no. The more I watch, the more I’m on the Young train. The kid is special. And I was on the Stroud train before because of Young’s size. But Young’s pocket presence and awareness is so far beyond the rest of these guys it’s insane. I just don’t think he’ll take as many big hits because he manipulates the pocket and senses blind side pressure so well. So it’s like if you said QB A would get injured once every 10 hits and QB B would get injured once every 20 hits, but QB A takes half as many hits as QB B, they have the same likelihood of getting injured. If Young was 6’2 he would be considered one of the greatest QB prospects ever. If we can’t trade up for him, I’m fine with Richardson at 9, but I don’t think I’d want to trade up for Richardson. -

I know the greats carry chips on their shoulders…but come on. He can’t possibly think anybody thought we were better off without him. One of the main reasons I wanted to trade him was because I knew we would be WORSE without him and hopefully get better draft position to build for the future. Turns out we kind of did get better without him because the whole offense couldn’t lean on him anymore, but that’s far from his fault.

Sometimes guys just get ruined. As good as the coaching staff may be, I don’t think they can un-do 5 years of damage in one off-season.

Not good enough to win, not smart enough to lose, now Ball out for the rest of the season.

If we don’t get a QB then this rockstar coaching staff is not being utilized to its full potential. We have the guys in place to develop a franchise QB right now. If we wanted to lower the cost of drafting our QB, the time to do it was during last season. Trading Burns could have given us extra ammo. Going 5-3 to end the season did us no favors.

Coaching Staff: Final Pieces (as of 2-23-23)
WUnderhill replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not sure, but I remember being very excited about Ron Rivera and the staff he assembled. We all knew Rivera would be a players coach and the defense would be good under him and McDermott. Chud was a very intriguing OC hire at the time and Shula as QBs coach as well. I remember being super excited to see the Coryell on offense and what blitz packages McDermott would cook up on D. That first year with Cam setting all those rookie records and getting Olsen and Shockey along with still having legends like Steve Smith, Ryan Kalil, Jordan Gross, double trouble, big money, Thomas Davis, etc. So much optimism and excitement. It felt like we were not only moving away from Foxball into the modern offensive era of football, but possibly even defining a new modern era of football. -
QB Hype in February vs. Where they were actually drafted
WUnderhill replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Somebody just wasted a lot of time on that. It would have been much more helpful if they had used a single source for the mocks to compare how they performed over the years, then you could at least draw some sort of conclusion like maybe this one source tends to mock QBs a little high or low on average. As it stands, there’s just nothing you can conclude outside of the obvious that sometimes mocks are right and sometimes they’re wrong. -
The Athletic names the top coaching hires for this cycle
WUnderhill replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not to mention fired after working the bye week while Matt Rhule took a vacation. Matt Rhule can suck a whole bag of dicks. I wish him nothing but abject failure in his future coaching endeavors. -
For sure. He’s one of Steve Smiths many sons.

Price to move into top 3 based on past trades.
WUnderhill replied to panther4life's topic in Carolina Panthers
Every year is different. This does not seem like a QB is gonna fall type year. -
Can’t blame him for wanting to work for the same organization his father played for. Almost brings a tear to your eye.

He must not have talked to any scouts, coaches, or execs from the Bears lol.

would you be opposed to moving back up for Bijan Robinson?
WUnderhill replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Are we talking about trading into the first round for a RB? I’d jump on the fire Fitterer bandwagon so fast it would make your head spin. -
I wasn't too impressed with Steichen's play calling
WUnderhill replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
We nearly went undefeated and had a really hard offense to stop with Cam Newton and Mike Shula. Imagine somebody hiring Mike Shula to HC after that thinking they were getting some wunderkind. Not saying Steichen and Shula are the same, just something to think about. I saw a lot of great plays made by Eagles players last night, I didn’t necessarily see them outscheme the Chiefs. I have the same problem with Hurts, and Olsen pointed it out a little. He chucked up a couple bombs that were basically just betting that AJ Brown would play the ball better than the coverage. One was a TD, one was nearly a pick. I saw several plays where both Hurts and the play design were bailed out by Goedert or a WR making spectacular grabs in coverage. -
How do you rank these QB’s that are 26 or younger
WUnderhill replied to panther4life's topic in Carolina Panthers
I assume you mean in the sense of who would you rather build a team around as opposed to who is better right now, otherwise undrafted QBs would have to be last. I’d go: Allen Burrow Herbert Lawrence Hurts Stroud Young Jackson Tua -
Wow that’s like 7 incidents from a decade plus career and nothing that even comes close to the theatrics of Lebron rolling around on the ground slamming his fists. Sorry, still don’t think MJ was “whiny”.
-
Do you think MJ was whiny?
-
I’m old enough that I actually watched MJ and remember it, and I don’t remember him being whiny. My memory could have some holes you’re right about that, but I don’t recall ever seeing him as whiny. And I don’t mean just asking for calls, Lebron and Brady throw literal temper tantrums.

MJ wasn’t.
