i think he’s playing very well overall for what is only his fifth game as a pro. He’s had a couple of “burned” but each one also looks like he didn’t know his assignment or he was expecting help over top. I’m not trying to make excuses; I’m just perplexed how we are using so many safeties and never seem to have anyone deep. i don’t think this scheme is doing him any favors. Hell, chinn has been caught out of positions multiple times, or has been covering. on the touchdown to the tight end I don’t think that was Chinns man. Like I don’t have time to rewatch things but that whole play looked weird defensively. i think this scheme might look a lot better on paper. Or, in year three all the nfl offensive coordinators have figured it out. The giants and browns both looked like they had plays they knew they could go to when they needed to, and that’s how you game plan. Well, competent teams anyway. i think the panthers are staring down some bad blowouts soon.

acquiring him was whatever. They didn't have any better options, failed to acquire stafford, obviously watson was watson, they weren't in position to draft anyone but I guess jones or fields which..meh. Darnold was still well thought of. i mean outside of "trade for x" I don't see any other options. the problem was what they traded for him (especially since he was probably going to be cut) and the contract they gave him, which i dont really care about because money is fake in the nfl. again, the QB situation the last two years has been despite their best efforts.

the olsen trade looks a lot better in retrospect, but he didn't become what he was until Carolina, and was generally considered a bust in Chicago. I mean even the year before we traded for him, he had 400 yards and just 41 catches. He didn't even start every game. If we made that trade today, Panthers fans would be furious/ And even with Carolina, he didn't REALLY become greg until 2012/2013. I do think you need to get starters with 3rd rounders, or at least guys that can contribute, and with one (admittedly horrible) play aside, Henderson has looked good through the past two weeks.

Merchandise is (partly) shared revenue. Panthers specific merchandise doesn't go to Tepper, it goes to the league as a whole then is split. It's one of the reason a few years ago Jerry Jones called out Paul Brown at team meetings. Brown was bringing the whole league down with his stingy bullshit. Concessions are team specific, but honestly the margins on those are kind of trash and are more than offset by what he's bringing in from MLS/concerts etc. Plus I can't imagine the fans that actually do go to the games are drinking LESS. Panthers have PSLs. Those seats are already sold. It's why even in their 1-15 seasons, they technically sold out every game even though the stadiums were 30% full. And Tepper has shown he will fuging eat a loss just to prove a point. He took a bath on the South Carolina facility just because he didn't want to pay a little extra to the city. i think on a neutral field, we could probably beat the Bears and the Falcons. I think the Colts are going to right the ship a little. i definitely think we'll be in contention for the first overall pick.

remember the henderson trade came after Horn's injury, but before Girlmore, so they actually needed a body and Henderson was just a good opportunity. I really like buying low on high first rounders, especially from teams that are poorly run, and both henderson and Levault came from the jags for relatively low prices. That was one of the ways that Belichick was so successful for so long, and was able to overcome some (at times) poor drafting. But that only works if you have the coaching to bring out the best in them and the Panthers are clearly lacking that right now.
