  1. Washington isn’t an elite scorer either so in your starting line up you have Melo, Herro, Simmons, Washington, and Plumlee… Where exactly are your points coming from besides Melo and Herro? That would be the easiest starting five to defend. All teams would have to do is lock in on Herro. At the very least, our current starting lineup of Melo, Rozier, Hayward, Washington, and Plumlee has three good scorers when fully healthy. Not to mention, Hayward has played more games than Simmons over the past three years. You effectively traded one bad contract for a worse and longer contract.
  2. All that and he barely has a winning record while playing with elite talent? He’s Westbrook… essentially a stat stuffer that can’t win. We don’t need his defense, we need our players who already good offensively to buy in. Hopefully Clifford can accomplish that. We also don’t need his play making, our offense wasn’t the problem last year and Melo needs to be surrounded by shooters, not guys who can’t make a a five foot jump shot. Anywho, it’s a moot point anyway as this hypothetical would never happen.
  3. Numbers aren’t all there is to basketball, that’s what’s great about the player efficiency rating, it calculates a players overall impact in all areas. And yes, Diallo does guard the opposing teams best player, he’s Detroit’s defensive specialist and averages more steals per game than Martin.
  4. Paying $40M for a player that scores 1 point in a playoff game is asinine… The Hornets already have a player with Simmons skillset who is a better player. Bringing in Simmons is on par with adding Westbrook except that Westbrook can sometimes shoot the basketball. Not to mention, Simmons is soft and has constantly been called out his teammates.
  5. He’s not a better defender by $3M per year, I’ll also take Diallo’s PER over Martin’s indicating that Diallo is the more efficient player while making a lot less.
  6. Simmons contract is worse than Haywards… Simmons hasn’t played in more than sixty games the past three years and he’ll soon be taking up 1/3 of the salary cap… not to mention he has a 15% trade kicker in his contract. Also, posting highlights doesn’t help the cause… they are supposed to be good… they are highlights. There’s plenty of lowlights out there for him too… like passing up and open layup in a playoff game or scoring a total of 1 point in a playoff game. The Hornets are better off teaching the players they have how to play defense rather than acquiring a defensive specialist (which they already have in Martin).
  7. It’s not a massive overpay but there are players that are better than Martin (for example: Diallo) making less money on a worse team. I also would have preferred a three year deal.
  8. I like Herro, would just prefer to use the money going to Simmons elsewhere.
  9. Wouldn’t have had to, for one Miles contract even at a max would have still come under the luxury tax and secondly, PJ’s contract doesn’t expire until next year… you know when both Plumlee’s and Oubre’s deals also expire, opening up more than enough room for Washington. Obviously a moot point now since Miles is an idiot but regardless, overpaying your own free agents unless they are star players can be detrimental to the long term cap flexibility of the team.
  10. So basically a bigger version of LaMelo that can’t shoot? The ball should be in LaMelo’s hands the majority of the time during the run of play. If Simmons were acquired then he’d need the ball in his hands to make any sort of impact. In reality, Simmons’ defensive game is the only intriguing thing about him. Literally the only thing that separates Simmons from a player like MKG is Simmons ability to handle the basketball, something that isn’t important to the Hornets. The perfect wing for LaMelo is an inside out player, unfortunately, that player just got arrested. Someone who gets into the lane as often as LaMelo doesn’t need another player that is going to spend most of their time in the lane.
  11. Just going back and watching some of his full game highlights, I think Kai has the ability to make us all forget about Miles.
  12. I also want nothing to do with Simmons. LaMelo is a ball dominant guard who can at least shoot. We don’t have room for a ball dominant guard that can’t shoot.
  13. I mean we can keep them regardless because we have their bird rights. However, over paying, even if it’s slightly, might prevent us from being able to sign free agents in the future due to lack of cap space (assuming any free agents would want to sign with us).
  14. I don’t follow. Cody is very similar to Hamidou Diallo, the difference is that Diallo is better and makes substantially less. It’s not a terrible contract but the Hornets could probably use the extra $3M per season that Cody is making (compared to Diallo’s contract).
  15. The Martin contract is meh, it depends on if he keeps progressing. He’s a good defender and has gotten better every year so hopefully that continues. His contract is slightly less than Gary Payton’s and I think Martin is better than Payton so there is that. I also wish it was a three year deal instead of a four year deal. Personally I’d have been much more comfortable at 3x$20M As someone mentioned above, Charlotte is going to have to overpay which is why it’s important that we draft and develop well while those players are on their entry contracts. This is why trading away our second round pick continues to be a baffling decision.
  16. Raleigh media speculating that the Canes are going to trade TDA’s rights.
  17. Not sure about the validity of that but I’m not totally against it, it would make the season interesting. I’d want a first round pick included though, Lonzo’s knee injury is concerning.
  18. Just wish we had another ball handler that could get all these guys open shots.
  19. Looks like Jesper Sellgren is leaving the Wolves and headed back to Sweden.
  20. Summer League team is out. G - Scottie Lewis G - Jalen Crutcher G - Ty-Shon Alexander G - LJ Figueroa G/F - Bryce McGowens F - JT Thor F - LiAngelo Ball F - Brady Manek F - Cameron McGriff F - Justin Minaya F - Isaiah Whaley F/C - Kai Jones C - Mark Williams C - Nick Richards Looks like the Hornets have once again decided to go into summer league play without solid point guard play. Jalen Crutcher is probably the only true point guard on the roster.
  21. Yeah, it doesn’t have to be Hayward, it can be Rozier as well. Essentially any sort of combination of salaries that gets us in the $20M to $25M range, if you couple that with say $5M of cap space then you can offer a $30M contract to someone (at this point only Ayton is left). The problem is teams are probably going to want Bouknight, Jones, and picks to take on these contracts.
  22. Me and you had the same idea and it’s pretty damn funny how quickly that trade bit them in the ass.
  23. So essentially the only way for the Hornets to add anyone (like Ayton) is to trade Hayward to a team with a ton of cap space (Indiana) and attach picks and young players. Or do a sign and trade which would also require picks and players… this organization man… unfortunately New Orleans already has a team or else I’d drive the Hornets to the fugging airport myself.
