Kenny Pickett > Malik Willis (at least for us)
MillionDollarCam replied to janderson20vt's topic in Carolina Panthers
For sure, you just have to hope that the accuracy he showed last year is here to stay and that his ability to go through his progressions quickly masks his lack of arm strength. You also don’t want him fumbling 38 times in 52 games… If the accuracy doesn’t hold up then you are looking at Andy Dalton. -

In Rhule’s mind I’d assume that he isn’t content with Darnold though. If a QB is drafted at six then that QB is being drafted to start and in Rhule’s case, save his job. If they don’t believe Willis can start day one then they aren’t going to take him. -

Sometimes you can be too logical and miss out on a great opportunity. That’s how Cleveland ended up with Mayfield instead of Allen. Luckily for them they’ve made up for it. If we take Pickett I pray that we get the fifth year version and not the version from year two through four. My hope is he can develop into a mobile Matt Ryan. I was talking to a coach that I interned with in college and that’s who he said that you hope he becomes. He compared their college careers and how they struggled with accuracy (except for Pickett last year) along with having weaker arms and their tendency to fumble a lot. One of the positives of both is that they went through their progressions well. Hopefully we develops into a mobile Matt Ryan. I’d be okay with that. -

Everyone struggled in the senior bowl, the OL’s wore horrid. What I’m concerned about is that it took Pickett five years and four years as a starter to look like a fluid passer. If you take last year out of the equation then Willis actually has a better completion percentage. Pickett is being mocked high simply because it appears that he can read a defense well and people think that he may have developed into an accurate passer… I don’t buy it. On the contrary, I have watched every snap that Willis has taken and I’ve seen him read defenses well when given time. He’ll have to be coached up in regards to his mechanics and relaxing in the pocket a bit but he’s not near of a project as people make him about to be. Nearly every one of his mistakes (outside of the Middle Tennessee State and Ole Miss games) can be attributed to trying to play hero ball. In the NFL he won’t have to do that. I just don’t by the stock that Pickett is selling. Hope I’m wrong though. -

So essentially we have to hope that his jump in accuracy wasn’t a one year wonder and he develops into a mobile Matt Ryan. But there is also a solid chance that what we saw during year two through four is who Pickett really is… which is a mobile Andy Dalton. -
Can we get Gilmore to come back?
MillionDollarCam replied to BurnNChinn's topic in Carolina Panthers
I fully expect him to come back. His family is here, he already has his role carved out and he’s already won a ring so he doesn’t need to chase one. If anything, I think the holdup would be the term. Gilmore is probably pushing for a three year deal and the Panthers may only want two years. -

Willis won’t be the pick simply because they want someone who can play now… unfortunately being able to play now doesn’t always correlate to playing well. I will support Pickett but my hopes aren’t high. -
This FA period is even a more reason that his job is in jeopardy… if he doesn’t win with this group then he’s gone.

Eh I disagree, the NBA is about teaming up these days and the only person that ever wanted to come here and team up with Kemba was Al Jefferson and Hayward (before Utah matched the offer sheet). Kupchak offered what he felt comfortable with and Kemba found a better offer. It worked out for everyone.

The relatives are upset with each other

Well that’s a little different but I understand it from McKissic’s point of view, why root up your entire life when you are getting the same deal. -

I like Beane but come on… that’s fuging American business… the highest dollar is all that matters for most individuals. -
Visually you can tell he’s already fallen off a bit but similar to the Wizards version of MJ, if you give him open shots he’s going to make them… same thing with Brady, if he has all day and a clean pocket to throw from then he’s going to make the pass. The Bucs have an elite OL outside of LG. If they continue to keep that line in tact then Brady will still be able to get them to the playoffs unfortunately.

It’s not about him taking on blocks, it’s about where he’ll be making the tackle. In a perfect world we have Luke and Shaq playing LB and Chinn coming in at SS. Currently we don’t have an elite OLB which will allow teams to run it down our throat. At SS, Chinn would be making all of the tackles five yards down the field. At LB, there’s at least a chance for a TFL or limiting the RB to a short gain.
-
Yeah.. he had Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright eating up all his blocks.. we don’t have that. As our current roster stands he’d be a better fit at LB unless we land an elite OLB. I’m not saying he can’t play SS because you are 100% right, most of his coverage struggles were from playing deep. I just don’t think with our current personnel it uses his talent the best. What we’ll see is Chinn making tackles 5 and 6 yards down the field.
-
It doesn’t make sense to have one of your best tacklers playing that far off the LOS. With how poor our run defense is, he would be much more useful playing OLB where he can’t put teams behind the chains. If he’s playing SS and still putting up ridiculous tackling numbers it’s because the running back has already broken through for a five yard gain.

Kenny Pickett > Malik Willis (at least for us)
MillionDollarCam replied to janderson20vt's topic in Carolina Panthers
Pickett isn’t coming in and saving anyone’s job either. It took him four years and a weakened ACC to figure out how to be an above average QB. -
Well that blows. Not a fan of Chinn at S.
-
After Smith ripped Baker a new one on National TV it didn’t seem like a possibility.
-
There’s not a QB in this class that helps Rhule win now which is what he will need to do to save his job. It’ll probably be Minshew or Jimmy G leading the offense which is whatever… but on the other hand, drafting Cross, Ekwonu, or Neal at six and having a line of… Cross/Ekwonu/Neal - Christensen - Bozeman - Corbett - Moton is something to be excited about.
-
Looks like it might be done…

Can we talk about Fitterer and the off-season so far
MillionDollarCam replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
When you start to look up and down the roster there’s not a whole lot left to address. Obviously the QB and LT/LG (Christensen will occupy one of those positions) positions are up in there. Additionally, with the rumor that Chinn is moving back to LB that opens up a hole at safety but we are rumored to be addressing that position. That really leaves us with CB and DE. In a perfect world Gilmore also comes back and we spend our first rounder on a LT and our fourth rounder on a rotational DE. At that point the only hole is QB. -
Obviously PFF isn’t the end all be all but what a difference a year makes… LT - Christensen (61) - Bozeman (73) - Corbett (68) - (77)
