  1. I like Simms but he’s starting to annoy me. So he got a few QB projections right. He also got plenty wrong. He was ALL about Haskins and Lock.
  2. The prime time to sell your PSLs was some years back before they dipped in price so much. My fam still has 4 that we got day 1..got our name on the north entry Panther. My pops renews but sells all but 2-3 games. I don't think it's worth it but he keeps them bc it just doesn't matter $ wise for the guy ha and he likes always having the same seats.
  3. It's a move Dallas kind of had to make even though they're setting the new precedent for QB pay. I'm relieved in a weird way because Dak is a guy I think is quite good but wouldn't really want him as our QB. So no tag and trade speculation.
  4. Exactly. If they don't have the modern traits, you're taking the risk they have the intangibles and things you can't really project from a college career. From what I've read, Jones did seem to process the playbook super quickly per Steve Sark so they were able to design a lot of pro level plays for that offense and expand the playbook. So overall, he has good traits as a passer (accuracy, quick with reads, decision making) & is a QB room guy. I think it will come down to if a team feels they have an offense that doesn't really require a mobile QB. Mac definitely likes to push it downfield which is nice. https://247sports.com/Article/NFL-Draft-2021-Mac-Jones-Alabama-Crimson-Tide-football-quarterback-stock-Senior-Bowl-Jim-Nagy-161998304/ I can see him doing well but it's really hard to see how he would do if the game is on his back and he needs to take a team downfield when needed. Bama had so many blowouts you don't get a sense of his clutch gene.
  5. I agree, briefly addressed that in the OP. He really seems to elevate the whole team when their back was against the wall. Just something in the gut tells me it's Watson or Fields, with an outside shot at Lance. I wouldn't think we'd be settling for Lance but that's a scenario where we just can't work out a deal to move up for Fields. We want a QB so I have to think we're looking at Watson, pick 3, or pick 5. Just don't see us accepting who falls out of Mac/Fields/Lance. I we targeted and did the "just go get him" method with Chinn, we're going to do it with our franchise QB.
  6. Quickness to process, read, and release is key the less agile the QB is. Mac seems to be pretty quick on his feet and is quite good with finding the right guy to throw it to, but it's not an obvious, glowing "OMG this kid is awesome" type thing. He's pretty darn crisp in the pocket but I dunno. I'd like to see the kid at least in the Tannehill/Rodgers range of pocket movement these days. It really seems the less agile QBs struggle unless they're on a Brady level these days. I think best case with him is he produces Derek Carr type numbers and you need a lot of talent around him to win.
  7. That may appear like protocol but these college programs do a lot of back end work with the QB recruits and can be a lot more involved than let on. And that year was the first Rhule had in rebuilding that program from the ashes of Briles. He did a LOTTTT of legwork and was doing more than typical college HC's do to bring kids into the school and program. It just makes me wonder which kids Rhule already knows to a degree in this class. 8. I really see a more defined/muscular Steve McNair with a tighter throwing motion. McNair's L position had a tilt to it and had a bit too much of a windup at times that Simms spoke to in that video. Funny enough, McNair was also drafted high in the MLB draft to the Mariners. Mahomes and Russell tend to do this as well but their playmaking, and to simply put it, top-QB gene make it a non-issue. Murray does it as well. All baseball dudes. Fields has very well disciplined mechanics throwing motion wise for a baseball background. The feet thing though, I see at times. If you look at 2019, he did, but then in 2020 he really started getting more patient in the pocket, and in big games, even more so. Would stand confidently in that pocket and step into his throws at a collapsing line. I saw some real grit on the field with him. And more importantly, steady, consistent improvement during his college career. The things Simms mentioned, Fields did that less and less each year.
  9. Would love some links. I've seen the contrary, especially in respect to his upper body mechanics he does very well. His downfield anticipation is a bit better than Cam's or Josh Allen's coming out. The critiques I see seem to by his reads progression (and his head does get a little robotic/jitterry scanning the field) but he still stands in the pocket with confidence. He just will choose a more aggressive/difficult option at times when that first read isn't there. This was a random mechanics vid I saw shared here some time ago and it stuck with me:
  10. He was in the Big Ten and I wasn’t using his stats. Also, I think his instances of holding the ball too long don’t have a true parallel to Cam IMO. Cam had a tendency to have his biggest hits on runs and when Bell and Remmers were flopping all over the place. I actually think this is one of the more sound drafts at QB than most. Last year? Just Burrow; people did NOT trust Herbert or Tua. Heck, look down the line. They’re all mad risky and Fields just checks so many boxes.
  11. I do think they just wanted Cam elsewhere but we could've at least just rolled with Kyle Allen on the cheap.
  12. I think if anything, he's getting a bit of a Deshaun Watson treatment where there's only limited ways to peg him down but a lot of the talking heads and "analysts" are doing their darnest to hype up the other QBs like Jones, Wilson, & Mond. So him being #3-5 on rankings is simply a byproduct of a lot of articles/analysts trying to hype their faves. From my view, this is a really good QB class. Not many have this arguable 1st rounder talent but I think Fields is a level above Wilson & Lance when I really look harder and take a sober look w/ the Zach hype train. There's a huge drop after that top-4/5. I'm unsure about Mond and Newman, then there's really nothing else.
  13. Thanks for making this. The Justin Fields thing had me totally get a flashback and realized Rhule-Fields have a history from his recruitment. (So I made a new thread haha)
  14. I was super high on Fields in 2019 and have been going back to him and then rolling with the Wilson buzz. So, I finally decided to give his QB life a finer look. And I have to say, I think this is the man to get. Maybe in a trade up, whatever way works. So why? Here we go: Justin Fields 6'3 227 Before the 2021 season, Fields was seen on par with Trevor Lawrence. Heck, rewind to his senior year in HS--he was seen as a future NFL QB coming out of HS. 5 star recruit, baseball stud, even seen as a potential MLB star/high pick. He was the guy colleges wanted. Now, fast forward post-PSU de-commit & UGA, he goes to OSU and just blows the lid off. He gets rave reviews by coaches before his season even started, after the UGA racist rumor thing, he doesn't talk trash, he simply acts like a man about it all. And a greater take from this is let's not think he's some OSU quarterback. He's not Haskins or like any of the past Buckeye starters. And it's not some cursed position-school connection. If you look at his recruitment, he received offers from Alabama, Florida, Miss State, PSU (his OG choice), UGA, Auburn, MSU, virtually every top school. And a fun factoid: Our very own Matt Rhule recruited him hard and the Baylor Bears offered him a scholarship in his first year at HC. Funny enough, Baylor recruited 2 QBs heavily in this draft class and offered them scholarships: Justin Fields & Kellen Mond. Just food for thought. His performance against Clemson in 2019 was damn good. That game really set the tone for the next few years with a fun Clemson/OSU/Bama dynamic at the top of college football world. Now this video is a pretty sober look at him. If you don't want to watch, the short: It shows he does make progressions, superb accuracy, great mechanics. The narrative that there's only one or two plays where he threw to his second read during the season is hyperbole but yes, it does hold some water given the offensive system: Also, feel free to watch him in duress with the OSU line depleted against Bama. I'd prefer to watch him at his lows versus looking at all the highs (which are pretty superb). That game and the Indiana one were his "bad" career performances. I just don't think there's as many question marks as people think there are with this guy. The other thing is that he's gotten beat up a few times in games (not just that Clemson one) and he's proved to be one tough SOB. And furthermore, he actually responds to getting knocked down by elevating himself and his team even more. You can't teach those qualities IMO. If you really have time: I think he could very well be our draft target, not Zach Wilson, not Trey Lance, not Mac Jones. He showed a lot of great leadership abilities with the pandemic situation with a weird schedule and a lot of players out at times. He seems patient when he needs to push in the pocket versus just bailing out and running. I just see a lot of superb traits with this kid. Love his in game presence, there's a lot to like. And in looking back at him more closely, I really see why he was viewed so closely to Lawrence. Our coach likely knows him well already versus some of the other QBs in the draft. This is my Justin Fields endorsement. Thanks for reading.
  15. Woah nelly. Maybe you should make a Teddy B <-> NO/WFT thread.
  16. Does this hold water per your circles? I'm wondering if this could facilitate Jimmy G to NE somehow. 49ers could get an additional pick from NE so Bridgewater's value in said scenario could be a 3rd/4th. NE: Jimmy G SF: Teddy Bridgewater, NE 3rd CAR: SF 4th?
  17. Here's a vid on Zach that I think explains well why people are falling for Zach even considering his comp. Can't say I think he's the best but see the argument for #2:
  18. True true. I actually think there's a bit of intangibles missing in Herbert (even considering his good play). This is where Fields actually has some toughness/win at all costs guts I like to see that's not in every prospect. Sometimes you can just tell and his college playoff performances two years in a row really showed a lot in that respect. This Zach kid seemed to be Manziel-ing & Favre-ing around with lesser competition whereas Fields would do what he had to do to get first and get that team downfield. Was really throwing himself into it. I just can't speak to Lance enough but I really like what I've seen in his interviews and he's built to play the game.
  19. I won't lie, I thought Herbert looked Blaine Gabbertish and was really surprised by his play in LA. When I saw a few of his college games, I just didn't see a guy commanding the game but he really stepped up.
  20. Yeah of the two scenarios I mentioned, that's what I'm leaning towards happens. At the end of the day, I don't think HOU wants to risk not getting their guy and landing pick 3. NYJ have what they need, some defensive talent and the #2 pick in the draft, along with a few other tradable picks as well. That's where the MIA pick suddenly becomes interesting. Do we like Fields that much? Is the trade up worth it? That's the big move if there is one for us in the draft, a Fields trade up to #3 leaping ATL for a QB we want. Now sure, like people are saying above me, don't be so sure/etc., but I just think teams will view this Zach Wilson kid higher. We can only make our best guesses and that's mine. I just don't see us being complacent at QB anymore from everything I've heard w/Tepper.
  21. Yeah, Fields and Lance will no doubt be under the biggest microscope in my view. If we think one of them is our guy, we'll go get him. If not, then that's where things start to get tricky.
  22. If that's the case, then in that scenario is 3 Houston taking a OL for their newly acquired Tua?
