Eh. It's year two. Just because someone wanted to keep Hurney around it doesn't give Rhule a pass on his timeline.

The Panthers now #7 most cap space in the NFL
Harbingers replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Also who wants to bet if the Saints test the salary cap limit and say they are just gonna roll with their 70 million over and see what the NFL does. Can't really stop them from playing without major blow back from the fans, etc. -

Harbingers replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
That has got to be a record for most teams in or basically in the red at 16. I am counting the Seahawks, Giants and Texans cause if you look at their list they are basically in the red. I am honestly surprised the league and owners haven't told the players they are going to take a cut this year across the board to match the salary cap cut. That doesn't help the Saints Eagles and Rams really but it'd draw a lot of those teams out of the red and in the end it would keep a lot more players employed this year than rolling with it as it is now. -
Game One: The Carolina Hurricanes close out a back-to-back set by hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning, the first of four consecutive match-ups against the defending Stanley Cup champions. The Match-Up Tampa Bay Lightning (10-3-1, 21 points) vs. Carolina Hurricanes (11-3-1, 23 points) Saturday, Feb. 20, 7 p.m. Watch: FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports GO Listen: 99.9 FM The Fan, Hurricanes.com/Listen, Hurricanes app The Opposition Last five games: 3-2-0, 6 points On the road: 4-2-1, 9 points CAR vs. TB: 1-0-0 Leading scorer: Brayden Point, 16 points (6g, 10a) in 14 games A historic winter storm in Dallas postponed the Lightning's two-game set with the Stars, a rematch of the 2020 Stanley Cup Final, that was supposed to take place on Thursday and Saturday. The Bolts have been idle since Monday, when they lost their second of three games to the Florida Panthers, prompting the schedule shuffle that now brings them to Raleigh for the beginning of a four-game set against the Canes. https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/gameday-preview-tampa-bay-lightning-carolina-hurricanes/c-321590582 https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/projected-lineup-tampa-bay-lightning-carolina-hurricanes/c-321599120 Forwards McGinn-Aho-Teravainen Niederreiter-Trocheck-Necas Svechnikov-Staal-Foegele Martinook-Paquette-Fast Defensemen Slavin-Hamilton Gardiner-Pesce Skjei-Bean Goalies Nedeljkovic Reimer Scratch: Fleury Ned is gonna face a real test tonight opening the series at home vs. the lightning. Frankly the most I'd read into his comment is he wants to keep the door open from his end to come back on the cheap but it sounds like the FO/Coaches are moving on from him.
-
Agreed. I think though Florida is actually going to be our top competition in the division unless we lose a majority to TB this series. Then it'd go 1) FL, 2) TB, 3) Canes. If we win out or 3-1 we will be in play for the one spot.
-
True. Snow isn't much of a 4+ man rusher and showed he's not changing from his college scheme last season. Maybe its "because of personnel" but I don't see it. I think he's just a college ceiling coach. Thus secondary is much more valuable in his mind.
-
Take Chinn out of the secondary and we don't have a secondary. If we had kept Bradberry moving Chinn would be a lot more palatable but still downright stupid in reality. The whole Watson fetish at this point is just stupid. We just simply don't have the team at this point and I'd really hate to go through the whole Cam is carrying the entire team thing again with Watson, which will happen if we trade for him at the price that's being thrown around. He'll be a lot cheaper(trade price wise) next year any who. Not to mention why would he want to go from one rebuild to another. We know he wants a plug and play on a championship worthy team. For instance; You know the Saints would salivate over him this season if they could. He's only 15 million and they like to worry about next year, next year. The Texas just want as much draft/young capital as possible. I can see the saints throwing them half a dozen players(Kwon and Lattimore included) and the picks to make their salary cap work this year. More than I can see us doing anything that wouldn't be detrimental. Edit: Ok, I just looked at Houston's cap space and I take that last part back. They don't have the cap space to take on high priced players(CMC,Shaq or the above players in that scenario) without seriously moving their bloated contracts. Oof they are cap fugged and Watson isn't the problem... This Year.
-
Oh absolutely not. But under his first scenario I wouldn't go any further than Shaq + extra pick + extra player(YGM). Burns or Brown in that instance is too much for Watson end of story. Take Shaq and an extra pick off the table and give them Burns in the scenario you say I think they'd bite. Personally anything over 3 first and an midrounder for Watson is too much for where we are and what his contract becomes after this year but huddle gonna huddle and try to sell the farm. Cripplingly us for years in the process.
-
YGM in that scenerio. Those three are off the table. If I had to choose though I'd say 3 1st and burns. 3 1st, 1 3rd and Brown. Chinn is off the table.
-
He was not good last year. But did show flashes in previously. His concussion history though is the most concerning part 1-2 more and he is done.
-
I hope he does. It was pretty obvious last offseason this exact situation would happen. I have no idea why he didn't cut hurney lose then.
-
So last year wasn't rebuilding time but this year is? Wtf? Waste of a year. Also if we are "Rebuilding" There's no way Watson is coming here and we shouldn't be giving up a poo ton of picks. This don't make no sense.
-
Isn't he like one or two concussions from basically being done in the league though?

Panthers open more cap, working Paradis's deal
Harbingers replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Any way you look at it Pre June 1st trading CMC for Watson we wouldn't have enough space for that deal even now. In fact we'd be about 10 million on the negative there. So even with these moves if CMC is in the deal we can't do a Watson trade. Without CMC in the deal right now, It might be possible to get Watson but we'd lose at least Samuel and Moton(unless we get him cheap this year with a backloaded contract, tag isn't possible in that Scenario). Plus we'd still have 15-20 spots to fill and single digit cap numbers to do it. -

We have about 23(Teddy included) Starting/Key Backup/Rotational Spots to fill this year so ya we need cap space. -
We have approximately 20 starting roster spots to fill and about with 22 rotational. We safely can say maybe 3 of those are on the roster already unless certain people really step up their game(IE: Greg Little). We have 35~ in cap space. - 9 for rookies but add on maybe 3 more for drafted starters? So about 26 million to fill 14-16 starting/rotational/key backup spots.
-
If this was the case why not just restructure him with an easy out next year.
-
Plus the need for cap space to do anything.
-
See these two make sense, same figures pre or post june 1st. Boston does not.
-
Why did they do it Pre June 1st? That part makes no sense. 800K in cap savings + 5M in dead money vs 3.5M in cap savings and only 2.6 in dead money.

No idea why we started Ned that game. Should have done reimer and gave him a rest on the first or both chicago games to be ready for TB. -
ESPN Predicts Watson to be the Panthers starter in 2021
Harbingers replied to Big Sexy's topic in Carolina Panthers
CMC, Burns, Brown, Matos are the players that would cost us cap space as well as dead money. Burns being the least with 4 Million dead and only 240K cap hit. -
